A high school student struggling to suppress her budding sexuality makes a startling discovery about her womanhood after becoming the victim of sexual violence in director Michael Lichtentenstein's semi-surreal exploration of the vagina dentate myth. Dawn (Jess Weixler) is a proud virgin and the most active member of her local chastity group. Though she struggles with every ounce of her willpower to resist the pleasures of the flesh, Dawn finds her noble efforts to remain chaste repeatedly challenged by her disturbed step-brother Brad - whose provocative advances are becoming increasingly difficult to resist. When Dawn is sexually assaulted and discovers that her vagina actually has teeth, she struggles to comprehend her anatomical anomaly while experiencing both the benefits and drawbacks of this strange new revelation. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

"
Teeth is a good one! Glad you thought of it because I sure forgot. While I generally have a few problems with the film I thought the concept and how far it went was brilliant. I will bring A L'Interieur to the table. Completely disgusting, gore filled, tense little gem. I spent the second half of the film either cringing or grabbing on to the nearest thing (i.e: my friend's knee). Everything from the utter psychosis of Beatrice Dalle to what the woman can do with a pair of scissors had me gagging.
Yeah, I guess my criticism on "Teeth" was a little harsh. The concept, I'll admit, is pretty genius. But the execution...I felt like I was watching a snuff film with all those...appendages. Plus I'm not sure the total skewering of Christianity was totally necessary. " [More]

"

Timur Bekmambetov. directed Night Watch, Day Watch and the new Angelina Jolie movie, Wanted. All of which would have to be described as "over the top"
My goodness, yes. I haven't yet seen "Wanted," but from the clips, it looks like it's gonna be insane. That shot they show in the trailer where the guy busts through a mirrored skyscraper window...classic Bekmambetov. I didn't know at first that he was directing that movie, but once I did, it made so much sense. As long as we're on the subject of "over-the-top," why don't we put "Teeth" on the list? I just watched it. Offensive, ridiculous and comes complete with b-movie production quality. Pretty much the most disgusting movie a person could make.
Teeth is a good one! "Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the . . . wait, wrong movie. Or is it? Teeth, or The Life and Times of an Ultra-Modern Feminist Superhero, follows Dawn on the perilous journey into womanhood and the dangers that lurk in a person's naughty places. The product of natural selection, nuclear fallout or good 'ol fashioned incest, the origins of Dawn's new powers remain a mystery, but one thing is for certain, with great power comes great . . . nope, wrong movie again. Struggling with her newfound power, Dawn must face the plethora of evil villains (mainly erections and curious fingers) that threaten to destroy the sanctity of her vajayjay. Both hilarious and frightening, Teeth embraces its schlocky B-movie roots and shines its pearly whites for the whole world to enjoy and simultaneously recoil in fear. " [More]

"Holy shit. This movie was crazy, and I loved every minute of it. Yes, she has teeth in her vagina... or her vagina has teeth, or something - but you should already know that from the trailer. Going in to this movie you have to know that it's going to be kind of ridiculous, and it is - but in just the right way. Squeamish you have no dick parts, check; humorous vagina with razor sharp teeth parts, check. Without giving away the quote, when she goes to the gynocologist, he yells something at the top of his lungs at one point, and trust me, as someone that tends not to 'lol' a lot, you will spit out your soda and choke on your popcorn. I had to rewind and watch it again, it was my favorite part of the movie and I hope to quote it in future awkwardly drunk situations. I will be talking about this movie for awhile, you should definitely check it out /it's fun to make little chomping noises whenever you mention the movie " [More]

"Thematically similar to Shivers, it seems., without the benefit of having seen Teeth. Cronenberg's is certainly dated now, but helped initially put him on the map. Though I do not anticipate a release of Teeth will make it to my home of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware (Dela-where?), I eagerly await its arrival on DVD. " [More]

Fans of Michael Lehmann's 1989 cult classic Heathers should do themselves a favor and seek out this slick little indie from first-time feature filmmaker Michael Lichtenstein, as this gruesomely charming tale of vagina dentata shares a similar satirical tone with that darkly comic tale of teen alienation. Of course, there are some key differences separating the two films, yet their approach to skewering teen trends and suburban morality bounds them as cinematic siblings who share an uncannily similar comic sensibility. Dawn (Jess Weixler) is a prim and proper teen who's saving herself for marriage, and who openly preaches what she practices as the impassioned spokesperson for an organization that uses a ring to symbolize their vow of abstinence (think Promise Keepers). Her mother Kim (Vivienne Benesch) married single-father Bill (Lenny Von Dohlen) when Dawn was just a little girl, and there's always been a certain tension between Dawn and her psychotic step-brother Brad (John Hensley). When outwardly angelic teen Tobey (Hale Appleman) violates the virginal Dawn during what was supposed to be an innocent dip in the lake, the girl who treasured her vow of celibacy realizes just how different from her classmates she truly is. Any film dealing with teen sexuality will court a fair amount of controversy by default, add a girl with a killer vagina into the mix and odds are good that any potential distributor will go running for the hills. Thankfully for fans of extreme cinema, Roadside Attractions and Dimension Extreme have seen fit to give the film a proper stateside release. In terms of horror, Teeth delivers the gory goods yet never wallows in excess, while in terms of comedy, it uses smart satire and gruesome sight gags to highlight the adult hysteria surrounding sex education, and the inherent dangers of forced ignorance regarding human sexuality. Weixler's performance as virtuous teen Dawn successfully highlights the script's satirical strengths as her unusual character arc toys playfully with the idea that she is some kind of female superhero gradually coming to terms with her unusual power, and co-star Appleman makes a demented impression as her intimidating, heavily tattooed step-brother. Also distinguishing the film is Paul Avery's smart-but-subtle production design, the local nuclear cooling towers at one point adorning Dawn's suburban ranch home like some garish symbol of middle class social status. Addressing such complex and controversial issues is certainly no easy task - especially for a modestly budgeted independent such as Teeth - yet thanks to his love for classic monster movies and his smart skills as a writer/director, Lichtenstein craftily manages to keep things relatively tasteful without necessarily playing it safe. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide
