A dying man entrusts a straight-shooting police detective with the key to a timeless mystery, thrusting the unsuspecting lawman into a deadly world where everyday objects have an unusual influence over reality as the result of an inexplicable rift in time and space. By all accounts the Sunshine Motel was one indistinguishable from any one of the countless other roadside lodges which dot Route 66. On the typical morning of an otherwise ordinary day, however, the contents in room ten of the Sunshine Motel are suddenly transformed into indestructible objects of immeasurable value. There's a comb with the power to stop time when the user runs it through their hair, and a pair of glasses that can inhibit combustion anywhere in a twenty-yard radius. When Police Detective Joe Miller (Peter Krause) is given the most powerful of all the objects - the key to room ten - he is quickly targeted for death by the various cabals that seek to collect the objects; some of the cabals want to collect to objects to achieve their own nefarious means, others simply to prevent them from falling into the wring hands. Things go from bad to worse for Detective Miller when his young daughter disappears in the room and he must race to solve the mystery of this strange phenomenon before he is caught in the crosshairs and his little girl disappears forever. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

"I really dug this movie. Enough that I was hoping they'd make a series out of it on SF. Seems like I heard there were plans along these lines, but I haven't heard anything about that in a long time. " [More]

"This is off-topic in the sense that it's not about a Top Five SF movie, but it is about an SF movie and I'm too lazy to search through the 300+ groups looking for other SF discussions.I brought home The Lost Room (2006) last night because my spousal unit and I wanted to see what Peter Krause (Nate in Six Feet Under) has been up to. The movie is a 4-episode mini that ran on the SciFi channel. We watched an episode and decided it was ok enough to continue. (Btw, Nate was still Nate, so so far, we don't know if he can be anything else but Nate). So I got up and discovered that we had watched episode 3. My theory is that skipping the first half of the movie made it watchable. The same thing happened to me when I was surfing at the local metroplex and caught the last half of Lake House.Must do more research. If coming in in the middle of a bad movie makes it better, would that also be true for a good movie? I have one other data point: watched the second half of the original ... " [More]

"The Lost Room (2006) (TV Mini)Directed by Craig R. Baxley, Michael W. Watkins.Starring Dennis Christopher, Julianna Margulies, Kevin Pollak, Peter Krause, Roger Bart, Elle Fanning.Lions Gate Films; aired on the SciFi Channel. 4 episodes.Self and spouse sat down to check on Peter Krause post-Six Feet Under. Summary: he's still Nate. Back now with Julianna Margulies instead of Rachael Griffiths and Lili Taylor. What a life. Please write in and explain Julianna Margulies' eyes to me. What is going on with those eyes? They're semi-opaque or...? The greatest eyes currently on the big screen. The Lost Room is presented in 4 episodes. We watched a complete episode and when I checked the box, I discovered that it was Episode 3. So we dropped into the movie at midpoint without noticing. I mean, when you start watching a movie, you expect some things to be explained as you go along, and they were explained, elliptically. So at the end of the episode, the question for us was, go on ... " [More]

"Wow now this is a psychological thriller. It keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time. I kept thinking what happens next. Definitely a must see. " [More]
