Lindsay Lohan stars in the mind-bending psychological thriller I Know Who Killed Me. She plays Aubrey Fleming, an unfortunate young woman whose life -- and body -- are irreparably damaged following an abduction by a heinous serial killer. Though Aubrey pulls off a miraculous escape from the clutches of the madman, she does so with deep-seated psychological scars, plus the loss of a hand, a leg, and untold amounts of blood. While Aubrey's parents view her return as a veritable answer to their prayers, they must soon confront an outrageous and seemingly inexplicable twist: the girl who returned claims another identity -- that of a young woman named Dakota. She also exhibits a wholly different personality and mannerisms than Aubrey did, and -- frighteningly -- insists that Aubrey is still very much alive, in the throes of the maniac's grip, and only inches away from death. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide

"No, this is not movie news, but it is a complete horror show, and its a totally slow news day, so I feel justified in posting it. A publicist just sent me this link to a stream of “Lindsay Lohan’s all new single ‘Bossy’ from her upcoming album due this fall.” It’s your standard unremarkable club track, but for whatever reason, this slightly-robotocized male ad pro voice keeps interrupting to remind us that what we’re listening to is “from Lindsay’s upcoming record, in stores, this fall!” Also, there are some pretty amazing lyrics about how people are touching her without her permission. Oh––here’s a movie angle: would Avant Retarde crapterpiece I Know Who Killed Me have been more successful if a) it had been released now, as Lindsay’s “comeback” film, rather than as the coincidental symbol of her gutter fall? and/or b) she had recorded one plot song for each half of his dual role? Wouldn’t this one be good for the stripper part––wouldn’t it be amazing if acting Lindsay stripped to ... " [More]

"Chicago 10 opens tonight. It’s a film full of archival footage and animated courtroom drama about the 1968 Democratic National Convention protests. We talk to director Brett Morgen about his dedication to bringing 60’s era protest back to today and ask the question, “Can it be done?” Lindsay Lohan swept the Razzies last weekend when I Know Who Killed Me outdid Catwoman as one of the all-time worst movies ever. But there’s a lot of people out there who say it’s, in fact, one of the best movies of 2007. We investigate. "Ok I definitely think there has been some crap on the screen this year. I would chalk Spider-Man 3 up as the biggest dissappointment of the year, but certainly it had some entertainment value even if every main character had to cry in it.My worst of 2007 nominees would be (these are the ones I have seen or at least started....there are other movies I avoid because I just know better): Delta Farce $8.135 Million (U.S. Theatrical Gross)I Know Who Killed Me $7.233 MillionI haven't seen them, but hear they sucked:Bug $7.025 MillionThe Last Legion $5.933 MillionWith 27 reviews in, Rotten Tomatoes rated The Comebacks a whopping 7% fresh... or 93% rotten I guess.... anyway what do you think the worst of 2007 was? "After registering a mere blip on the Box Office radar this summer, I Know Who Killed Me will attempt to make up for its poor showing with its DVD release on November 27th. On the surface the film would seem to have all that the average suspense-obssessed DVD renter would desire; sex, a "hot" young starlet, a murder mystery, and an apparent plot twist. All I can say is viewer beware! The sexy young starlet , Lyndsay Lohan, teases you with the promise of T & A, but only delivers a dissappointing and rather raunchy exotic dance without any nudity. Perhaps young Lyndsay should have taken a lessons from Anne Hathaway, another child-star who had the guts to take her top off and then landed in an Oscar worthy movie, something Lohan is eons away from. What else does I Know Who Killed Me have to offer?, not much. The movie conspicuously leads you toward all kinds of theories, but in doing so makes it very obvious that none of them hold any water. Sure, you probably can ... " [More]

"I saw posters for Take Over BAM whilst wandering around Brooklyn last weekend; the words “Lindsay Lohan Mid-Career Retrospective” caught my eye but, alas, my attendance was expected at a different affair that evening. Teaches me to make plans in advance. Michael Tully has a full write-up on the glories I missed: Could someone really have their cake and eat it too, delivering one of the most impossibly perfect so-bad-it???s-incredible movies that I have ever seen? Is that really possible? It doesn???t even matter, to be honest. That said, if it was intentional I would be in greater awe than I was while watching the opening shot of Silent Light, or the entirety of No Country For Old Men, or the long one-takes in Children of Men. I firmly believe that I Know Who Killed Me is a rare gift to the world on par with those recent achievements. It???s somehow fitting that this was the exact same theater where a few months ago I experienced another of my all-time great movie-going experience ... " [More]

"On last week’s edition of FilmCouch, I revealed one of my dirtiest secrets: on some level, I’m more interested in bad movies than good ones. You’ll have to listen to the podcast to hear my explanation, but coincidentally, I’ve come across a number of stories over the past few days that revolve around quantifying and qualifying movie badness. Going into the weekend, FILMMAKER’s Scott Macaulay noticed that the apparently unwatchable (and unscreened for critics) Lindsay Lohan vehicle I Know Who Killed Me was rocking a rating of 0% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. “In our long-tailed world of a million and one tastes, it would seem impossible to make a film that simply nobody likes,” Macaulay wrote. “If you believe the tomato squad, however, it’s been done.” A commenter on that post noted that once a few more reviews started to roll in, its score skyrocketed to 8%; five days later, it has actually dropped to 7%. Only two of the reviews listed at Rotten Tomatoes are positive enough to earn a j ... " [More]

"I’ve got an unlikely double feature planed for today–a press screening of the Leonardo DiCaprio-narrated environmental doc The 11th Hour, followed by a special screening of Pasolini’s Teorema at BAM–and it’ll keep me away from the computer for most of the afternoon. So here’s a round of things you really should read before checking out for the weekend: “I don’t like movies in which a strong, confident woman learns (often through humiliation) that her life simply isn’t going to be fulfilling until she finds herself a man and maybe a child or two. I don’t care if it’s Bette Davis in Now, Voyager or Diane Keaton in Baby Boom, it’s insulting to single women, and I was a single woman for long enough that I still feel insulted.” That’s the cold open to Jette Kernion’s No Reservations review at Cinematical. The Reeler’s Annaliese Griffin notes that this year’s lineup for Scanners, the annual video festival which opens tonight at Lincoln Center, “grapples with our sex obsession in surpris ... " [More]

If David Lynch had directed an Italian thriller from the late 1970s or early 1980s, chances are the results would be something akin to I Know Who Killed Me -- a kind of frenetic, Gen-Y giallo that seems tailor-made for Lindsay Lohan's floundering career. While many critics seem eager to dismiss the movie as so-called "torture porn," it definitely has more similarities to the occasionally incoherent Italian thrillers of yesteryear than it does to the likes of Saw or Captivity, and to take that approach seems something of a cop out. Despite being quite an audacious and ambitious effort, I Know Who Killed Me ultimately falls victim to director Chris Sivertson and first-time screenwriter Jeff Hammond's inability to pull off the kind of Lynchian psychological complexity to which they obviously aspire. Anyone who saw Sivertson's commendably disturbing debut The Lost can attest to the influence that Lynch seems to have had on the emerging director, but here in his sophomore effort that influence has become more a hindrance than an asset (after all, by the time Lynch took a trip to Twin Peaks, he already had an impressive body of work to his name). Yet despite being somewhat overlong and eventually buckling under its own ambition and lack of logic, it is precisely these traits (in addition to some truly repulsive gore) that really make I Know Who Killed Me such a magnificent mess. Veteran cinematographer John R. Leonetti's lush photography does lend the film a highly polished, intoxicatingly surreal look at times, though his skills as a visual stylist are frequently offset by first-time feature screenwriter Jeff Hammond's slipshod script and some truly cringe-worthy acting -- especially by star Lohan. Stated simply, Lohan is awful; she's totally unconvincing as an ivory-tapping suburban good girl, and seems completely out of her element as a seedy stripper (note to actresses who want to seem edgy by playing strippers but are intent on maintaining their "no nudity" clause: don't -- it just looks silly and prudish). In the end, it's I Know Who Killed Me's over-the-top imagery, incoherence, jaw-dropping twist, and mind-bending execution that will likely appeal to genre buffs and fans of the outrageous, but for everyone else, the only draw here is the chance to marvel at the breathtaking spectacle of a falling star. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide
