Directed by Charles Barton.
This Abbott & Costello vehicle was originally planned as a Bob Hope comedy titled Easy Does It. The Hope role is fairly evenly divided between Bud Abbott, as hotel house detective Casey Edwards, and Lou Costello, as bumbling bellhop Lou Costello. When a much-hated criminal attorney (Nicholas Joy) is murdered at a resort hotel, there's no shortage of suspects: in fact, practically every guest had an excellent motive for killing the victim. The suspects conspire to pin the killing on poor Freddie, but when he comes in possession of a valuable piece of evidence, he is slated for extermination himself. The more Freddie and his pal Casey try to stay out of trouble, the more trouble comes their way--especially when two more murders occur. The climax takes place in an underground cavern, where Freddie is nearly drowned by the hooded mystery killer. The film's title is one of the most misleading in movie history. Cast as a red-herring swami, Boris Karloff is not the killer (whose true identity is obvious from the outset, especially to veteran moviegoers). Though his footage is extremely limited, Karloff shares the film's funniest scene, in which he tries to hypnotize Costello into committing suicide ("You'll kill yourself if it's the last thing you do!). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

"There are so many on my list that it would be hard for me to remember them all. But I just watched Blades of Glory the other day and really thought this was cute. I have to say I really laughed out loud at a few parts. I love Will Ferrell movies, I get his sense of humor and he just cracks me up. I think my all time favorite comedy, though, has to be Airplane - I still love watching that movie over and over again. OF course I also love the old, old Classics like any Marx Brothers film, Abbott and Costello (especially when they meet the different monsters), Bing Crosby and Bob Hope movies...let's see there is also, Some Like it Hot, Bringing up Baby, so many others. What are some of your favorites? " [More]

"Perhaps, "A Killer", not "The Killer", would be more appropriate. Karloff's "phony", as the police put it, swami may have no qualms about hypnotizing Costello's bellhop character into offing himself, but he is only one of many suspects residing in a hotel swarming with police looking for the murderer of an attorney. Karloff is great fun in the swami role, but he also disappears largely from the film after some good early scenes. Costello booby-traps his room to try and catch the real killer, but naturally his traps backfire in numerous places. Of course, many murders occur in the meantime, and of course, Lou will get the blame for all of them, but that's the fun part, right? Watching the pudgy little guy bluster and whistle and sweat his way from bad situation to worse situation, all the while both aided and blocked by his best pal Abbott. That's what A&C are all about, and this one delivers the goods, albeit in a reduced fashion. S ... " [More]

"That is really cute, I bet that molasses was really hard to get off his face. hee hee. Yes I absolutely love all Abbott and Costello movies. In Kansas City they were on Sunday afternoons when I was little along with Shirley Temple Theater too (which my mom just loved) and Tarzan Theater. Anyway, they just cracked me up so much, just the way that Lou would react to everything. I loved them and the Marx Brothers - the Three Stooges were okay but I was a little sensitive when I was young (I know, I know, I watched countless horror movies, but guys hitting each other and poking each others eyes and yelling at each other upset me more that Dracula ripping out the throat of someone, I told you I was a strange child...lol) so I didn't watch them as much, I was watching the reruns on Spike TV the other day of the Three Stooges and it is much funnier to me now, But Abbott and Costello are the best in my book.
