Directed by Guillermo del Toro.
Ron Perlman returns to the role of the big red BPRD agent in this sequel to 2004's Hellboy, directed once again by Guillermo del Toro and scripted as before in collaboration with original Hellboy creator Mike Mignola. For centuries, an ancient truce has kept the naïve citizens of the human race safe from the horrors of the invisible realm - but that's all about to change, and fast. A ruthless leader has emerged in the invisible realm, a tyrant just as comfortable walking the surface realm as he is living in the land of fantasy. When this power mad ruler defies his bloodline to assemble an unstoppable army of fantastical creatures that he will use to wage a supernatural war on humanity, it begins to appear that mankind's days are numbered. But Hellboy (Perlman) isn't about to stand idly by as the planet is purged by a demonic despot, and with a little help from his team at the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense, he may just be able to send our otherworldly overlords packing. Of course Hellboy's pyrokinetic girlfriend Liz (Selma Blair) is always willing to conjure up an inferno or two when things get desperate, aquatic Abe (Doug Jones) is prepared to dive headlong into any conflict, and protplasmic mystic Johann (voice of Thomas Kretschmann) proves an invaluable companion in times of inter-dimensional conflict. Now, as the creatures who inhabit the spiritual realm gear-up for an all out attack on the human plane, the only one capable of saving the Earth is a tough-talking hellspawn rejected by both worlds. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

"Hear that? That is the sound of countless Botox-enhanced faces within the film industry simultaneously stretching to a smile after the opening weekend of ‘Iron Man.’ As everything else in these current economically shaky times, the film industry hobbled into 2008, weakened by a writers strike and sagging returns. Who would have thought Robert Downey Jr. would be the one to save us from this mess? But in he flew (granted, he was playing a character by the name of Tony Stark, but really, what’s the difference?), cracking $100 million in its first weekend alone. Of course, studio execs are quick to point out all the ‘firsts’ and “biggests’ for the film – the first non-sequel film to reach that benchmark in May; Downey’s biggest opening day ever; the first comic book-inspired film that was released under a waning crescent moon to gross that much; the biggest debut of a character with an incredibly angular goatee… and so on. ... "Upset that the Third Reich doesn’t appear in either this summer’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull or Hellboy II: The Golden Army? Of course you are. Nazis have featured in many great Hollywood films, from Casablanca to Schindler’s List. They’ve been the focus of one of the best documentaries of all time (Triumph of the Will). They show up in the best musicals (The Sound of Music), the best action films (Raiders of the Lost Ark), the best science fiction films (Star Wars, sort of), the best comedies (The Great Dictator, sort of), the best dramas (Judgment at Nuremburg), the best foreign films (Rome, Open City) and even the best animated shorts (Der Fueher’s Face). In fact, without the Nazis, cinema might not have had so many great war films, POW films or other kinds of films necessitating a personification of evil. Of course, like many others I would wish for them to have never existed, because millions of lives are more important than any number of classic movies ... " [More]

"

If it was for the DavidLynch.com film, it was because there was no space between Dynamic, the colon, and 01. I've corrected this. Let me know if it continues to be an issue, Xavier
it is still an issue for me; please see my recent post in Foreign Gems...The Flims appear to link, that is, they are highlighted in the post, but do not appear associated with the Post nor linked to the film on the film page...
As you probably noticed, we changed the Link a movie feature, so it may have to do with your browser, what browser and platform are you running? Are you using the Link a Movie or the chain link function? In link a movie, when you select a movie you want to link, you are taken to a second screen which confirms the text as it will appear on the screen. If you could explain the steps you're taking, that would be very helpful. Xavier
Hellboy II: The Golden Arm yis going to be awesome. " [More]

"It’s been three months since the trades reported Guillermo Del Toro was in talks to direct The Hobbit (as two separate films). So why has it taken this long for the deal to be set in stone? Over at The Movie Blog, John thinks some of it had to do with Del Toro wanting to make sure he would have enough creative control, considering he’ll be working for producer Peter Jackson. How much control will Guillermo del Toro have? I’ll be willing to bet this was one of the big issues delaying the official announcement of his agreeing to direct the projects. Peter Jackson helmed The Lord of the Rings… will he allow del Toro (a better director over all in my opinion… although both are insanely gifted) the freedom to make these films as he sees fit with modestly limited interference? Clearly del Toro should listen to the studio and to Jackson in particular… but these are HIS movies now, not Jacksons, and for the most part he needs to be the man in charge now. Will they let that happen? As I me ... " [More]

"I just saw the trailer for the new Hellboy recently and really thought it looked almost as dumb as when I saw the trailer for the first one. But then I ended up loving the first one, so I'm going to not try to judge this trailer. " [More]

"I CAN"T WAIT! I love the whole concept of Hellboy and I can only hope that this film will be like X-Men 2 for me and competely renew my hope for the series. There were so many aspects of the first film that I loved yet something about it managed to fall somewhat short for me so I am hoping that this movie will be everything I expected from the first and more.
I completely agree. There was just something about the whole Nazi thing that weirded me out. There seems to be something about these films that use history and religion... the Da Vinci Code for example. I feel like they could all do so much more. There are so many smaller plot lines that could be pursued, and backstories that could develop. LOST has really captured the essence of this. " [More]

"What do y'all think about the new Hellboy II: The Golden Army trailer? (Click the link to watch on the film detail page)I was a big fan of the original Hellboy, for reasons I can't really identify. The first minute or two of the trailer made me think that the sequel was going to focus a lot less on the relationships that were created in the first, but then the last few seconds made me think the deep cult/religious historical stuff will be broken up with moderately funny dialogue between Hellboy and his team.I'm looking forward to it...
