Directed by Lance Weiler.
A troubled man discovers his terrible visions may not all be all in his head in this independent horror story. Emotionally disturbed George (Vince Mola) has been working odd jobs and drifting from city to city for several years when he returns to his home down and moves into an abandoned house that once belonged to his grandmother. George has grand plans of fixing up the house, but it has already been condemned, and neighbors Chester (Jim Sullivan) and Julian (Jamil Mangan) are wary of him. As George sets up his tent inside the old house, he begins to discover curious things that suggest something terrible has happened there, and he wonders if it all ties in to a shocking murder he witnessed as a child. Soon George is being terrorized by a shadowy figure in a snorkel parka, and strange things begin happening as the basement fills with water. Written and directed by Lance Weiler, who created the ultra-low-budget cult phenomenon The Last Broadcast, Head Trauma was screened as part of the 2006 Los Angeles Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

"HOPE is missing Add to My Profile | More VideosLance Weiler of Head Trauma fame has launched a new web series on MySpace called Hope is Missing. Loosely intended as a companion to Head Trauma, which is being released on VOD on October 23, the series is a true cross-platform event unfolding over MySpace, Twitter, and even real life. Two episodes are live so far; I’ve been having fun sorting through the comments, watching the users go from taking it at face value that these are “real” clips about a real missing girl, to questioning that assumption, to making the connection to Head Trauma. The first episode is above, and the whole series can be found here. Originally posted on:SpoutBlog's blog " [More]

"As promised, Lance Weiler brought his Head Trauma alternate reality game to the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens this past weekend, and as promised, a number of interventions were made to bridge the gap between the world inhabited by the film and its audience. Notes and images follow; you can see more pictures here. Information about the event in the run-up to it seemed to be deliberately vague. I knew Weiler was referring to the cut of the film to be shown as a "remix"; I knew there was to be live music, live actors, and most intriguingly, some kind of interactive game involving a cell phone. I was a bit suspicious about that last idea. I wondered if Head Trauma wasn't too...um...cerebral a film for this kind of thing. Not to give anything way, but the horror perpetrated within the narrative is relatively ... um ... self-contained. There's little potential for the killer to strike again, little potential for a sequel, little fear of him following you home. It's already a fi ... " [More]

"I watched Head Trauma last night and there were a few things I think are wrong about this film and many things I think are right:The title is all wrong and goes for something cheaper than what the movie itself does. It seems like a needless trapping for what is essentially a psychological thriller more in line with Memento or A Knife in the Water or Vertigo.I don't think of any of those other movies as a horror one. I realize that expectations can be a little lower for independant horror movies. Something in the grainy quality of 16mm or digital keeps us on edge. Scares can be cheap, especially with some clever editing. The editing suites available to any of us are more than the resources of many a capable Hollywood production of the past. What had to be done in many laborious takes once upon a time, can be patched up along the way without jeapordizing a tight budget and even tighter schedule. Given all that, I think Lance Weiler is an extremely accomplished filmmaker and based ... "Spout invited Scott Kirsner (Cinematech), Ry Russo-Young (Orphans), Lance Weiler (Head Trauma, The Workbook Project) and Alison Willmore (IFC News) to come and talk. We like their minds and think they're really tapped into the future of filmmaking and what the new distribution "sledgehammer" will be. Syndicated Feed From:SpoutBlog " [More]
