Directed by Mark Helfrich.
A serial dater afflicted with a lifelong curse of loneliness attempts to win the love of a clumsy-but-beautiful penguin expert in the one romantic comedy that proves true love never comes easy. As a ten year-old boy, Charlie (Dane Cook) broke the cardinal rule of spin-the-bottle by refusing to kiss a demented Goth girl. Crushed by the disheartening snub and determined to ensure that Charlie never finds true love, the vengeful brooder places a hex on the cowardly rule breaker that follows him well into his adult life. Flash forward twenty years and Charlie is a successful dentist who just can't seem to maintain a stable relationship. Sure he's had his fair share of one-night stands, but these days Charlie is just looking to find a nice girl he can settle down with. One day, while attending an ex-girlfriend's wedding, Charlie realizes that every girl he has ever dated has proceeded to find true love with the very next man they met. When word gets out that Charlie is something of a lucky charm for women looking to tie the knot, every women within a 100 mile radius comes calling for a one night stand; and while taking a bevy of beauties to bed is fun for the time being, it doesn't take long for Charlie to realize just how empty sex can be without true love. Upon meeting hard-to-get aquatic bird specialist Cam (Jessica Alba), Charlie begins to suspect that he has found the woman of his dreams. Cam is the kind of woman whom Charlie would be happy to grow old with, but what will come of their relationship if Charlie and Cam sleep together? Now, in order to ensure that Cam doesn't end up with the next guy she meets, Charlie will finally attempt to break the curse that has plagued him since childhood. Perhaps with a little help from smooth talking ladies' man and sympathetic best friend Stu (Dan Fogler), Charlie will finally be able to experience true happiness. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

"If there’s one actress working today who best reinforces the theories of Lauren Mulvey, it’s Jessica Alba. And she encourages the male gaze by maintaining a career centered playing eye candy, whether she’s having her skirt ripped off to expose her underwear (Good Luck Chuck), spending the majority of a film wearing a bikini (Into the Blue), playing a stripper (Sin City), being used to invoke jealousy (Meet Bill) or invoking erectile gags out of Mike Myers (The Love Guru). Perhaps someone should write a lengthy article on the myriad ways in which Alba relates to feminist film theory. I think her role as Invisible Woman in the Fantastic Four movies and her blind character from The Eye (who identifies herself with the dead woman whose eyes she acquires) can each inspire a few interesting theses. Obviously Alba is aware of the male gaze and may in fact be controlling it. It’s possible even that her participation in the online staring contest at ibeatyou.com is a matter of ironic reflex ... "Jessica Alba may be appearing in a lot of movies these days, but I wouldn’t exactly say she’s been keeping busy. It can’t be too much work to play the role of “Eye Candy” again and again and again. This time she plays a girl who is used in exploited for a vengeful ploy by a husband (Aaron Eckhart) to invoke jealousy in his cheating wife (Elizabeth Banks). The character could have been played by any pretty face (in fact Alba replaced Lindsay Lohan in the role), but Alba seems to be the most appropriately cast, because she’s one of the hottest actresses right now and yet she seems to be easily accessible to any filmmaker who wants to employ her. Last week we looked at another movie starring Alba, The Love Guru. In that she seems to have a more disposable role — she’s not really introduced until halfway through the trailer, and even then it’s unclear what purpose her character serves other than to invoke erectile gags from Mike Myers. Meet Bill premiered last fall at the Toronto Film ... " [More]

"Have you ever gone to a movie and expected it to be awesome only to have it even more awesome?! Well, this film did just that. I loved it so much. Seriously. It was so hilarious. I love when actresses can actually let loose and have some fun. The only other two that I see doing anything remotely similar would be Drew Barrymore and Kate Winslet. I was so impressed by both actors in this movie. And the story was so cute. And I think there's enough humor for guys to enjoy it just as much as the girls. Yeah, there is some pretty raunchy crude humor, but if you enjoy that sort of thing then you'll love this movie. I can't even think of what to compare it to because it's nothing like I've ever seen. I've never seen a movie that constructed characters so well in a comedy. You have to stay during the credits also because the penguin sex scene almost made me pee myself. I had a giant water bottle and by the end I didn't want to leave and miss anything so I seriou ... " [More]

"What the preview doesn't tell you (thus what I won't reveal here ... I'm a "good-boy!") is why Chuck is a serial-dater. In short, (like Dane Cook), he's a good man ... one who knows that the world owes women more than we men can ever repay.Chuck isn't exactly giving them 'his love' though, what he's giving the women is ... the reason his name is "Good Luck Chuck."Jessica Alba's in it; you've seen her and Dane Cook in the previews, so you can guess how the movie's going to end. (Sure, there's a little 'suspense' as to how they reach that ending; but it ends up exactly like you thought it would.)All-in-all, it's a good reassurement that, "If you set her free, but it's meant to be; her heart will pull her back to thee." (This is why I don't write movies: because I turn and tell you the overall meaning rather than teach it to you slow like every good movie does.)Granted, there are defini ... " [More]

"Funny freaking movie! How can you not love seeing Jessica Alba get knocked in the face several times? Not to mention getting to stare at Dane Cook for an hour and a half. The story was amusing and the supporting actors were superb. Thank you for the gut buster. " [More]
