Directed by Uwe Boll.
Notorious, critic-boxing director Uwe Boll takes the helm for this adaptation of the controversial video game that ignited controversy across the globe and is actually illegal to own in Australia and New Zealand. Dude (Zack Ward) is an unemployed slacker currently subsisting on Social Security until he lands his next job. Dude's uncle Dave (Dave Foley) is a cult leader currently in dire financial straits. When Uncle Dave hatches a plan to rip off a local amusement park, Dude sees the heist as the perfect opportunity to make a little extra cash. Unfortunately for Dude and Uncle Dave, the Taliban are all set to execute the exact same heist. Erick Avari, Seymour Cassel, Verne Troyer, Larry Thomas, and J.K. Simmons star in a deliberately over-the-top action comedy that is sure to garner as much controversy as the video game that inspired it. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

"I’m a bit late in posting this awesome video featuring Uwe Boll responding to the online petition against him, which I argued against last week. But since a new pro-Boll petition has shown up online, I’m glad to be posting it late rather than having to bring you daily coverage of the most hated filmmaker in the world. Even if each update is more hilarious than the last. Boll himself called for the second petition, which he seems sure will have just as much chance of being signed by a million people. The self-proclaimed “only fucking genius in the business” may need to wait awhile, though, as the number of current anti-Boll signatures is nearly 200,000 while the number of pro-Bollers is only at 4. The issue may be that none of us have yet seen Boll’s new film, Postal, which he says is “way better than all that social-critic George Clooney bullshit that you get every fucking weekend.” I’m a bit torn, unfortunately, with supporting the new petition any more than I support the first o ... "Ok.... I don't think ANYONE should be 'banned' from making movies, no matter how bad they suck... I have seen 'House Of The Dead' and it truly sucks... this is probably the WORST movie I have ever seen! (and that is saying a LOT!) ... but it is STILL a Horror Movie and it is better than the best romantic comedy... So where does that leave us... I hate it because it is terrible and yet I still love it... " [More]

"I think it's a rather moot point. There are always going to be "good" directors and "bad" directors, "good" screenplays and "bad" screenplays, et. al. It may not be any kind of majority, but some people do like his films and I think he serves a purpose (however inane it may be).Personally, I had wanted to see Bloodrayne when I found out that Guinevere Turner was scripting it (I liked Go Fish and The Notorious Bettie Page and loved American Pyscho) and was completely horrified when I had seen the final product. Interestingly, I was able to talk with Guinevere in L.A. through a friend of mine that was friends with her friends or some weird six degrees of separation like that. Anyways, I wanted to talk to her about Bloodrayne and when I barely finished speaking the word she rolled her eyes and made a look of disgust on her face that pretty much explained everything. She briefly mentioned fighting with Boll and his people over the script and how most of it was taken out of her hand ... " [More]

"I was just reading on the SpoutBlog (here's the link to the article) about director Uwe Boll. If you haven't heard of him, he's the guy who directed such gems as House of the Dead and Bloodrayne. Apparently, there is a petition out to stop Boll from making any more movies. But, Boll said that it would take a million signatures to get him to stop filmmaking. The petition now has about 60,000 blog signatures.Okay. The SpoutBlog makes a good point that if you aren't going to see the movies anyway, why should you bother saying they suck in the first place? Well, here's a good reason: if you've seen House of the Dead, you know that it sucks. Really. Really. Hard. It sucks SO much, that when I, personally, heard that Boll directed Bloodrayne, I crossed it off my "to see" list. He also directed Alone in the Dark which, wasn't necessarily horrible, but it weren't good neither. All the movies he makes, by the way, are usually based on v ... " [More]

"By now, I’m sure everyone has read about the petition to stop Uwe Boll from making more movies. I don’t know how long the thing has been around, but it got a huge boost over the weekend thanks to a FEARnet interview with Dr. Boll, in which he said it would take a million signatures to convince him to quit filmmaking. Various blogs picked up the story and thanks to support almost webwide, the number has gone up from 18,000 to more than 60,000 (it was apparently only 40,000 this morning). As New York’s Vulture blog points out, that is a whole lot more people than went to see Boll’s film In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale, which makes me sort of dubious and disappointed. If you’re not going to his movies anyway, why do you care if he keeps on making them? Personally, I would expect most blogs would favor him continuing his career. He gives us all something to write about, and on slow days like this that’s something to be thankful for. Vulture also notes that while the petit ... " [More]
