Directed by Dave Meyers.
A lonely stretch of highway leads to a date with terror in this thriller. Jim Halsey (Zachary Knighton) and Grace Andrews (Sophia Bush) are a young couple in the midst of a long-distance road trip when, during a rainstorm, they take pity on a hitchhiker, John Ryder) (Sean Bean), and give him a lift. Jim and Grace soon come to regret their benevolence when Ryder reveals himself as a violent madman determined to see them dead. Luck is with Jim and Grace, and they're able to throw off Ryder and get back on the road, but as it happens their troubles are just beginning. Ryder has already killed a handful of people and is planting evidence that suggests Jim and Grace are the murderers; now the couple is on the run from the law as they search for Ryder in a bid to clears their names. The Hitcher is a remake of the 1986 cult horror classic of the same name; the new version was produced by Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller, who previously produced remakes of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Amityville Horror. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

"When I first seen this remake, I went in with an open mind. The first Hitcher was pretty good for its time. Atypical 80's movie. So I wanted to see if this Hitcher was better. By far, it was better. Though the plot did mirror the other Hitcher, it was far better written as well as acted. Most importantly, this Hitcher didnt really have the woman as the victim as it was in the first movie. In this Hitcher, the woman could be called the hero. And you find yourself routing for her at the end of the movie...DO IT!. Which I duely applaud.Sean Bean was very believable as a crazed killer. As Sophia Bush's character, knew from the begining that there was something not quite right with dude. I do think that the Zachary Knighton character could have bigger balls than he did. He just seemed to be somewhat of a pansy. The best scene in the hole movie was when the he had Knighton character tied between the trucks. You really didnt think the Hitcher would split him, but then he does. Tha ... " [More]

"I didn't realize that I had gotten so far behind.I found Stomp the Yard surprisingly enjoyable. Perhaps it was my mood at the time, or maybe just because I secretly enjoy dancing movies. Whatever the reason, despite the predictable story and just average acting, I had a good time. The choreography is outstanding. It won't change your world, but this is a good afternoon distraction. From director Takashi Miike ("Audition"), Ichi the Killer is a strange and often disgusting film. The story has rival Japanese gangs, and a sub-group bent on destroying one of the gang's pain-loving lunatic members. Ichi is just a quiet guy who has been trained to fight and kill because of some traumatic childhood memories. He's got some crazy moves (which my husband says are from the game Tekken). There's lots of torture and awkward sexual moments. I thought the end was a bit abrupt. But the main bad guy had an excellent iridescent suit during the final battle. Worth watching, but ver ... "By Tricia Olszewski The Hitcher opens, as slasher films often do, with a this-could-be-you! statistic about highway fatalities. Not about hitchhiker-related fatalities, mind you. And not about how many serial-killer victims have been found near highways. Just a factoid about, you know, driving dangers, which the filmmakers deemed relevant to the movie because, I guess, both involve roads. It’s just as silly as Hollywood’s now yearslong trend of churning out horror-flick remakes, which makes the worthiness of each successive redo more tiresome to debate. But here’s the rundown on the most recent one: the 2007 version of The Hitcher, the directorial debut of music-vid veteran Dave Meyers, is a nearly scene-by-scene re-creation of the 1986 original. Written by Eric Bernt (Romeo Must Die) and Jake Wade Wall (2006’s When a Stranger Calls)—with a giant credit to the first movie’s scripter, Eric Red—the new version swaps the lone, mousy traveler ... "we all love the originals of any movie, but common, were in the year 2007 and we are making REMAKES, stop comparing them to other things. Like the movie for what it is.Frankly, i LOVED the hitcher remake, i haven't seen the original of the 2003 sequel. This movie was incredible. I was on the edge of my bed when i was watching it. Maybe cause being chased like that is one of my biggest fears perhaps? I don't know for sure. But i definittly give this 5 stars " [More]

"I'm not familiar with the original "Hitcher," but it had to be better than this. At least it would have the advantage of eighties horror camp, whereas this sorry film is just one bad scene after another. The protagonists seem like good folks, but man are they dumb. Awful one-liners are spouted all over the place; lines like "He's never going to stop, is he?" and (my personal favorite) "Here in the great state of New Mexico, we have the Death Penalty." This glittering quip was not uttered by either Sophia Bush or Zacharay Knighton, but by Neal McDonough, although this doesn't make it any less idiotic.Probably the only saving grace of the movie for me was Sean Bean, who was perfectly cast. In fact, the sole reason I went to see this movie was because he was playing John Ryder. The guy just eminates creepy psychoticness. And that scene where he blew up the helicopter? Freakin' brilliant. But, I wouldn't expect anything less from Bean. He's saved many a crappy m ... " [More]

"I don't know about anyone else, the original 'the Hitcher ' ( good god almighty, why must I always refer to the 'original'), left me completely shaken and wasted. Rutger Hauer was perfect, as was Thomas Howell. A completely creepy harrowing premise, nauseating scenes of gore and blood splatters all racing toward a super-natural finish...How, for the love of pete, do you remake that? why do you remake it? do you up the 'realism' like the 'new 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre??? Will R. Lee Ermey be in it too? how do you pitch it to the studio heads??? 'dude, remember 'the Hitcher'???...it was crap!; well let me tell you what we are going to do...'what am I saying???; I will probably go, get a pint or two of something or other (old overholt )and laugh my ass off while I watch it during a matinee showing...so much for my principles. maybe I will be moved to write a glowing review, damning my idiocy and prejudgement.
