After the original cut was taken and hacked, Cassavetes punched the executive producer and walked away from directing in the Hollywood studio system.

paul loved it.
Often called his most accessible film, I believe it earned that not because it's easy to watch, but because he got a performance from Rowlands that is unmatched in any other film I've seen.

So honest. It's a look into upper middle-class white suburbs. The everyday suffering it finds turns a mundane subject into something unforgettable. It's worth noting that this flick was made and distributed with Cassavetes own money in a time when that was unheard of. The handheld camera, a necessity for production, has been mimicked innumerable times for it's immediate, "gritty" quality.

Cassavetes plays Rosemary's (Mia Farrow) husband. Apparently Roman Polanski and Cassavetes hated each other. John kept trying to bring more depth and improvisation to a role that is really shallow now.

One of Cassavetes most memorable roles as an actor. The salary from the Dirty Dozen paid for Faces to be completed. Thanks Lee Marvin.

A friend once said, "Cassavetes really takes his time to tell a story." It's true. Cassavetes edits to his own clock, which is why the plot of Cosmo, a war vet/compulsive gambler, roped in to performing an assassination becomes such an intimate story.
