Directed by Joe Camp.
Both Benji the dog and his trainer Frank Inn play themselves in Benji the Hunted. Accidentally separated from Inn early in the film, the loveable pooch is forced to fend for himself in the Pacific Northwest. He latches onto a litter of cougar cubs, protecting them from harm while he himself has been targetted for a quick demise by a voracious black timber wolf. Filmed in Oregon and Washington, Benji the Hunted is more of the same from writer/director Joe Camp, the man who brought you all those earlier Benji epics. Camp's tendency to direct his doggie star with more confidence than his human actors is very pronounced here; in fact, the film would have benefitted immensely by a complete lack of human characters. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

"I've always been scared of black wolves. So I'll second the bid for The Neverending Story, but specifically the part where the big wolf is talking from within that cave. But the worst one for me was Benji The Hunted. There was a frightening wolf in that, and the worst scene is when Benji tricks the wolf to run off the side of the cliff. You see the wolf's body fall down this deep ravine while you hear the most blood chilling howl. For some reason this movie played often in my house. I don't know why we would have rented it more than once, but somehow it was always on TV or something. I would watch the movie with my family but have to run into the bathroom when I knew that scene was coming up and plug my ears. I had a lot of nightmares of wolves coming to attack me at school around that time. Holy crap, I just watched this and it just gave me major goosebumps. And I don't even have any audio at work. "Yes, Risselada, maybe you should conquer your fear and watch it again. Then you can come out here to Seattle, they have a place called Wolf Park. It is a haven for wolves (of course they are behind a very big fence) they have some nights called a HOWL-IN - you can go up there late at night and howl at the full moon and it starts all the wolves howling at the moon too. It is VERY cool. Sometimes I think Scary movies for me are something that I can be brave about. There are sometimes I am so scared about so many different things, I feel like I can conquer one of my fears by watching terrifying movies. Hmmm, I will have to get out my old psyche books. lol. I'm sure someone could do a whole thesis on me. hee hee. " [More]

"Woah! That's sick and sadistic! Movies can be a real device of torture.I just remember getting nightmares from Benji the Hunted. I have a real terror of wolves. That howl the wolf made as he feel to his death from the cliff was what really did it for me. Oh man I'm getting goosebumps just writing this. Maybe I should rent it again! He he. " [More]

"Yeah Willy Wonka, the part where they ride that boat through the tunnel and Wilder sings that freaky song and there's all kinds of disturbings images projected up on the wall. I remember when I was a kid, Judge Doom scared the crap out of me when he turned into a cartoon as well. Now Roger Rabbit is one of my all time favorite films. Tmoney, I just read your blog on The Peanut Butter Solution. That does sounds like one of the freakiest things around. I was totally frightened of black wolves in movies. So I would always run out of the room when the wolf parts would come on in Benji the Hunted or The Neverending Story. The most chilling part of Benji was when Benji tricks the wolf into running off of that cliff to his demise. The wolf howl haunted my nightmares. I think it was Superman III. There was some part with a giant computer that would grab people and turn them into evil androids. I caught that on TV once and couldn't get the terrifying image out of my head. I think I w ...
