An orphan who dreams of someday finding a family to call his own finds his fate taking an unexpected turn when a mysterious stranger named Wilbur Robinson transports him into the future. Based on the book A Day With Wilbur Robinson by William Joyce, Meet the Robinsons tells the story of a boy with a lifelong wish to belong, and shows what happens when he meets an incredible collection of characters who just might have the power to make his wildest fantasies come true. The film's all-star cast of vocal contributors -- including Angela Bassett, Kelly Ripa, Tom Selleck, Adam West, Steve Zahn, and Laurie Metcalf -- brings the world of the future to life as never before seen on the silver screen. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

"Disney is back. Well, not entirely back. Not yet. They still have a lot of redeeming to do, but if "Meet the Robinsons" is any indication, they are heading in the right direction. From the opening Mickey-Goofy-Donald cartoon to the final quote by Uncle Walt himself, this is the first Disney movie that I've seen in a long time (aside from Pixar's creations) that actually felt magical.Lewis is an orphan/prodigy inventor who is trying to find his mother. The harder that the kindly head of the orphanage tries to find a family for Lewis, the more he looks to math, science, and his memory machine for his salvation and hope for a family. Then, there is time travel, a greasy-haired villain, sausage cannons, people flying in bubbles, and evil bowler hats that want to conquer the world and turn it into a scene from "Terminator." After many adventures and a couple nice little plot twists, everyone gets what they deserve and all live happily ever after. The good:1. The Mickey-Goo ... " [More]

"this movie's storyline somewhat parallels the last movie i saw, The Italian, however this Disney story wasn't quite as bleak! it's about an orphan (a genius by the way) who can't seem to get adopted as he's a little "different." he's already 12, so things are not looking so great. he invents a machine that can access his memories relating to what his mother looks like, so he can find her and live happily ever after. the story isn't that important, although i liked the ending. i'm giving it 4 stars because i've never seen a 3D movie before and it was fascinating! there was also a cartoon and 2-3 trailers in 3D (U2 and The Nightmare Before Xmas). i am so there and i already have the glasses (unless they only work for Disney movies)! A lot of people probably looked at Meet the Robinsons and thought, "Oh, it's a feature-length Jetsons." Well, that would have been a better idea than what they went with. Disney's second foray into computer animation (after Chicken Little) is a hodgepodge inspired by far-less-beloved pockets of science fiction. Especially with its time travel milieu, Meet the Robinsons' future world resembles the cheerily grotesque zaniness of a Back to the Future II, as an old man with his head on backwards and a cadre of singing frogs are the norm. Perhaps it's impossible to entirely avoid what's come before, but a fleet of sinister flying gadgets seems to have escaped from The Matrix, and there's even a robot butler so similar in appearance to Robots' Rodney Copperbottom, you could call it a rip-off. But the most basic problem with Meet the Robinsons is that it doesn't have much heart. While the film features that most recognizable of Disney constructs -- the young child missing one or both parents -- it can't follow through with Disney's usual ability to produce effortless sympathy for him. You do feel for young Lewis, but as the kid has failed to get adopted after more than 100 interviews, one has to wonder, "Hey kid, maybe it's you." Meet the Robinsons is a narrative disappointment as well. While a good time-traveling epic usually introduces smart conundrums, Robinsons explores these haphazardly and without clear rules. Better to have just set the whole thing in the future and focused on giving depth to that world, rather than providing only disjointed and garish flashes of it. The images themselves look great, but since Disney is no longer the only visually sophisticated shop in town, it needs to tap into another traditional strength -- the writing -- to keeping producing classics into the 21st century. ~ Derek Armstrong, All Movie Guide
