Directed by Chris Noonan.
The true story of the woman who created some of the most beloved characters in children's literature comes to the screen in this drama leavened with elements of comedy and romance. Beatrix Potter (Renée Zellweger) is a imaginative but gently eccentric woman living in the socially and intellectually confining circumstances of Victorian England. Potter's wealthy parents are eager for her to marry a successful man and settle down, but she has ideas of her own, and has been writing and illustrating a series of stories for children centered around a character she calls Peter Rabbit. Potter's efforts to find a publisher for her stories prove difficult, but in time she finds a firm who agrees to give her book a chance, and Norman Warne (Ewan McGregor) is put in charge of the project. While Warne is new to the publishing game, he believes Potter has great talent and potential, and throws himself into the work with enthusiasm. A strong personal bond grows between Potter and Warne, and in time he asks her to marry him; however, Beatrix's parents do not approve of Norman, and she is forced to choose between her mother and father and the man she loves. Norman's sister Mille (Emily Watson) urges Beatrix to follow her heart, and she accepts Norman's proposal, but fate has other plans. Miss Potter was directed by Chris Noonan, who created an international sensation with his first feature film, Babe. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

"A delightful very well acted movie. The casting was very well done with just the right actors for each role. The sights in the Lake District were excellent. Having visited there, it was a real treat. I had no idea that Miss Potter made such a great contibution to the trust that preserves the Lake District. To enjoy this movie you need to be an adult with a good memory of your childhold days! " [More]

"Stellar cast and an absolutely wonderful movie; For a british movie, i was suprised that it was not a very chatty or not a very long movie(92 min.)which makes it great for families to watch. The movie sort of reminded me of Bridge to Terabithia (2007);This would be the grown-up adult like version of b.to terrabithia with romance in victorian times at England.Miss Potter though, is much better acted, and a more moving flick.I like how Norman introduced her love for beatrix and beatrix did not take long to give him her reply.I like how the movie did not go on forever about a guy or girls romantic feeling for someone and did not find an answer or have an answer at the conclusion part of the movie like a lot of english romantic movies.Disappointed though with the unexpected parting of Norman. The movie did not explain much about norman sickness and death;Very similar death feeling to b.to terabithia, quick and unexpected. The tragedy of Normans death and what happened afterwards is more mo ... "Watching movies is often a luck-of-the-draw process. If you're just picking movies at random that you think look good, but have no real knowledge of, you never know what you're going to end up with. This is usually how I do my Friday-night movie picking. I just look around for something I think will interest me, watch it, and see what happens. The quality of the movies vary. Some are awful. Some are pretty good. Some are really good. Once in a rare while, however, I'll stumble on a movie that is truly great, a cinematic gem that illuminates the viewer from the inside out, and just makes me feel wonderful for the rest of the day. I'm delighted to say that "Miss Potter" is one of those movies. The movie is a biopic of children's author Beatrix Potter (played by Renee Zellweger), who at 32 was living in late Victorian London, still residing with her disapproving parents. The film follows the publishing of Potter's first book, "The Tale of Peter Rabbit" through her m ... " [More]

"“Miss Potter” was heart-warming and kept the viewers attention for the 92 minute running time. The story moved at a pretty consistent pace. I would have liked more focus on the creation of her stories…from the inception to the publishing…it seemed rather rushed at times, almost as if it was a side note to the love story between Renée and Ewan. Renée Zellweger was great as always and provided a good glimpse of what Beatrix Potter may have actually been like. Ewan McGregor was great as Norman Warne, Beatrix Potter’s publisher. The chemistry between the two didn’t seem forced or unbelievable. Considering they’ve worked together in the past on “Down With Love” (2003), they seemed very comfortable around each other. Emily Watson was very funny as Millie Warne, Norman Warne’s sister. The rest of the supporting cast was great and provided some good laughs. The directing, by Chris Noonan, was nothing exceptional, but done well enough to make a good movie. It was Noonan’s first film ... " [More]
