"A strange, 800-word “how I spent my summer vacation” piece from Todd McCarthy in Variety. The critic apparently stayed in a hotel in Barcelona adjacent to the set of the film Woody Allen’s currently shooting there. He spotted Allen and Harvey Weinstein from the other side of the barricades; he tried to get on the set, but the production assistant he spoke to was unyielding. Very bloggy, but in a depressing way — if this is the closest Variety’s film critic can get to Woody Allen, what chance do the rest of us have? "Like most, I grew up with the turtles. I always say you can learn a lot about a person if you ask em who their favorite turtle is. True story.. :) Well on to the review shall we..? Extremely well developed movie.. Hands down a must see. It encorperates all elements which define a "great movie". If Leo and Raph are your favorite turtles, You'll enjoy it even more.. Their was not enough attenion drawn to Mikey and the Don but alas the story wasn't directly centered around both of them so it's understandable. I would have liked to see more detail and focus on the monsters and villians regardless of thier small roles within the movie, I still felt character development was needed in that area. They could have stretched the 1:40 time length of the movie to 1:50 to help with this matter going onto my next point, I felt it wasn't long enough..CGI over live action hands down.. They can really maximize the potential of the ninja turtles to a higher degree showing h ... " [More]

"Opening weekend numbers scored TMNT the number one spot at the box office. Although the weekend's gross was just a little higher than 24 million - we might see Second week numbers peek a little higher. I saw it twice and after seeing it the second time I've come to terms with the plot issues. The second time seeing it I really zoned in on the visual elements. I've come to the conclusion there was not enough rain. However, that scene was probably the most expensive scene in the whole movie - so that's probably why it was short lived. Everyone I talked to has said that it was BEAUTIFUL. The movie really is stunning and I cannot get the look of Michaelangelo's face in the final scene out of my head. It still cracks me up. "Growing up, I LOVED the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT). Every morning before school my younger brother and I would lay on the kitchen counter (yes, that's right lay) and watch the classic 80s cartoon. I specifically remember trying to win tickets to the Coming Out of Their Shells concert tour. I was 6, maybe 7 at the time. I will never forget in 1990, when I was 9 years old, going to see the very first TMNT live-action move with my brother and my 18 year old cousin. My eyes were wide and my jaw dropped on that first wide angle shot of NYC. Jim Henson's creature shop was at the forefront of puppet-tronics as they built the green suits actors and stunt men like Ernie Rays Jr. (Donatello) would wear to bring the turtles to life. And classic voices like Robbie Rist, Brian Tochi (Revenge of the Nerds), and Corey Feldman (Goonies) - there was so much to love. In short, my nostalgia runs very deep. The new TMNT is nothing like that. I have very mixed feelings ... " [More]
