Directed by Doug Lefler.
Co-adapted by Tom Butterworth and Jez Butterworth from Valerio Massimo Manfredi's bestselling historical adventure novel, Doug Lefler's period epic The Last Legion unfurls c. 470 A.D., just prior to the fall of the colossal Roman Empire. As the most recent in a long line of Caesars, a young Roman child, Romulus (Thomas Sangster) is poised to inherit the throne - until Germanic forces invade, lay siege to the city, and brutally murder his parents. At the last second, with his life hanging by a thread, Romulus receives the protection of military commander Aurelius (Colin Firth), who assembles a cadre of rebels, including Romulus, the boy's magician instructor Ambrosinus (Sir Ben Kingsley) and the Indian female warrior Mira (Aishwarya Rai). After Romulus discovers an enchanted sword once claimed by Julius Caesar, the troupe heads out to the province of Britannia and Hadrian's Wall. There, the men will regroup with the Ninth Legion and plan one final triumphant stand against the barbarian invaders of Rome. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide

"Ok I definitely think there has been some crap on the screen this year. I would chalk Spider-Man 3 up as the biggest dissappointment of the year, but certainly it had some entertainment value even if every main character had to cry in it.My worst of 2007 nominees would be (these are the ones I have seen or at least started....there are other movies I avoid because I just know better): Delta Farce $8.135 Million (U.S. Theatrical Gross)I Know Who Killed Me $7.233 MillionI haven't seen them, but hear they sucked:Bug $7.025 MillionThe Last Legion $5.933 MillionWith 27 reviews in, Rotten Tomatoes rated The Comebacks a whopping 7% fresh... or 93% rotten I guess.... anyway what do you think the worst of 2007 was? "How quaint that only a week after we had an overt tribute to The Princess Bride in Stardust that we have another one that less direct, but in the same spirit all the same (and nearly as funny, though I doubt that it would see it that way). But that’s how I felt after leaving The Last Legion, Doug Lefler’s film about the real story about Excalibur. First of all, if you don’t see the irony and humor around that idea, this is not the movie for you. But if you do have an acute sense of humor and don’t require a laugh track, then this movie could be surprisingly hilariousThe Last Legion starts off in Rome where a young boy Romulus (Thomas Sangster) is being crowned the new Cesar. We are already told that each year a new Cesar is crowned after the old one is killed. So naturally, the night after he gets the crown, the Goths (lead by a flamboyant Peter Mullan) attack the Cesar’s mansion on a hill overlooking Rome (with it’s backside facing a vast wooded ...
