Directed by Brian Levant.
Feeling that something is lacking in their lives, the family of suburbanite Charles Grodin adopts a stray St. Bernard puppy. The cute lite beast grows up to be the less-than-cute Beethoven, a sloppy, slobbery, oversized and extremely destructive animal. Beethoven also brings with him a lot of hidden baggage in the form of evil veterinarian Dean Jones, who'll stop at nothing to steal Beethoven for the purposes of his insidious lab experiment. Several sequels followed, beginning with 1993 Beethoven's Second. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

"Of course there are the obvious ones like Mel Gibson (Lethal Weapon, Mad Max) and Sylvester Stallone (Rocky, Rambo) But let's find the much more amusing ones like: Judge Reinhold has been in the Santa Clause series, the Beverly Hills Cop series, the Beethoven series, and something I just discovered called the Crackerjack trilogy. "AndyLabryn! So true. I can't believe I forgot Time Bandits. If midgets in hell aren't scary enough, the kid's parents blow up in the end. I watched this movie again last year and Terry Gilliam commented that kids laughed when the parents blew up. He must have been screening it with juvenile offenders. " [More]
