Directed by Steven Shainberg.
Nicole Kidman assumes the identity of visionary photographer Diane Arbus in a film that draws inspiration from author Patricia Bosworth's best-selling biography to tell the tale of a once-shy woman who becomes one of her generation's most strikingly original visual artists. Diane Arbus was a typical wife and mother whose morbid interests stood in stark contrast with her decidedly conventional existence in 1950s-era New York. Upon making the acquaintance of her eccentric, newly arrived neighbor, Lionel (Robert Downey Jr.), the once-content housewife soon embarks on a creative journey that will forever change the way both she and her legions of fans view the world around them. By blending factual aspects of Arbus' life with a fictional narrative, Fur weighs the domestic expectations of the 20th century housewife against the irrepressible drive for an artist to create and explore the world around her in her own unique way. Scripted by Erin Cressida Wilson and directed by Steven Shainberg (Secretary), Fur weaves a fictional romance with intimate details from the iconic photographer's life to offer a fascinating look at Arbus' artistic development. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

"There remain too many things in life that go unexplained, whether they want to be or not. As each person reflects on their own life, and those that have left some indelible mark so much as that we want to know more about it, there is always that want, that need, for more. For some it remains "normal" and no explanation is necessary. For many it never comes at all. But for those rare few individuals that are lucky enough to inspire, create and live such beautiful and profound lives there is the unimaginable. This is my understanding of what Steven Shainberg believed about Diane Arbus and the incredible work she produced in her life. With every aspect of production at its best, this film is a mysterious and magical exploration of the unknown, the possible, and the improbable. A love story at its core, Fur is heartfelt and tragic, beautiful and frightening, uplifting and fanciful. Life is perspective: see what you will. " [More]

"Nicole Kidman’s streak of high-profile disappointments looks like it’ll continue with The Invasion. Dennis Harvey’s review confirms the bad buzz: “Perhaps the sole distinguishing element in this Invasion is that it provides a new transmission oh-so-characteristic of our filmic era: projectile barfing.” Jennifer Aniston will join Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Connelly and Kevin Connelly in He’s Just Not Into You, making the New Line project surely the most star-studded movie based on a self-help book ever made. Rosario Dawson is teaming with the creative team behind the hit animated sci-fi web video series Afterworld to star in and produce The Gemini Division, a 100-episode “live-action/motion-capture animation online sci-fi series.” Emerging Pictures is calling on students at historically black universities around the country to help promote Honeydripper, John Sayles’ upcoming musical starring Danny Glover. ""Fur - I don't know if anybody saw the trailer but it made the film look so creepy and mysterious. Turned out it was just Hollywood schlock." - nothing creepy about this movie; read a write up critics about the movie having a werewolf or a continuation of teen wolf from the 80s BUT all false; it is just about a man that had more hair than most, and a bunch of other folks that had physical differences from most common people; It is about tolerance, accepting other people no matter what physical differences they have; It is about a hairy guy that opened dianes eyes to other kinds of people and in turn open up things about her that she did not know she had or was capable of;The hairy guy showed the passion/gift that diane has; Therefore diane began to culivate her own passions ,and started on the road to her own independence( a feminist photograher who ws creative behind her time)NO werewolves, monsters,or anything creepy about this movie; In fact it was steering more to romantic/dr ... "Great topic. I have to admit, even the trailer for 23 made me want to vomit. It's possible we saw two different trailers. And I totally agree about watching trailers as a favorite part about going to the movie. In fact, when there is a movie I really want to see, odds are I have been anticipating it for months upon months mostly just based on the trailer. I'm actually going to list movies that were just very different than the trailer because it is not often I am severely dissapointed by a film (as I usually follow critics recommendations before I actually see it).1. Fur - I don't know if anybody saw the trailer but it made the film look so creepy and mysterious. Turned out it was just Hollywood schlock.2. A Dirty Shame - This was a John Waters film, and the trailer I thought looked hilarious. It wasn't. It was slap stick, screw ball, perverted humour that only a junior higher would be enthralled by.3. Noi - The beauty of this trailer absolutely took my brea ... " [More]

"From the trailer, I expected this film to be a mysterious art film.  I can't say it was bad film, it just didn't meet my expectations.  It was a very straight forward, near Hollywood expression.  If you were entranced by how this film was marketed, don't expect anything like that. " [More]

"Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus Nicole Kidman assumes the identity of visionary photographer Diane Arbus in a film that draws inspiration from author Patricia Bosworth's best-selling biography to tell the tale of a once-shy woman who becomes one of her generation's most strikingly original visual artists.
