Directed by Takashi Shimizu.
Japanese horror specialist Takashi Shimizu returns to the mythology that terrified audiences the world over with this terror-inducing sequel to the hit 2004 frightener. When a cursed Tokyo home is burned to the ground, the baneful spirit once confined within its walls is suddenly unleased to terrorize anyone and everyone who crosses its dark path. Original producers Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, and Taka Ichise return to help Shimizu realize his hair-raising vision with this tale that finds Karen's (Sarah Michelle Gellar) sister, Aubrey (Amber Tamblyn), teaming with spellbound journalist Eason (Edison Chen) to investigate the spectral mystery. Meanwhile, the ghostly grip of Toshio (Oga Tanaka) and Kayako (Takako Fuji) tightens on a Chicago housewife (Jennifer Beals) halfway across the globe. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

"As a standalone film, "The Grudge 2" stands a chance at working and making a slight bit of sense. However, as the sequel to 2004´s "The Grudge", it tries entirely too hard to expand the franchise´s universe with reasoning and logic. After the events of the first film, Aubrey Davis (Amber Tamblyn) is sent to bring her sister Karen (Sarah Michelle Gellar) back to the United States. Once In Japan, however, she learns of a curse that befalls everyone who enters what is supposedly the most haunted house in the country. Meanwhile, three girls from the international school venture into the house with dire consequences. Halfway around the world in Chicago, a young boy named Jake (Matthew Knight) discovers a person being sequestered in the apartment next door. Somehow, all these people have been touched by the curse. But what is the link that joins people in two different countries to this curse-ridden house? The biggest problem for this horror sequel is just that: it´s ... " [More]

"By Tricia Olszewski Don’t you hate it when you’re feeling around for your cell phone and grab a cold, gray foot instead? Ghostly body parts play a big part in The Grudge 2, Japanese writer-director Takashi Shimizu’s reimagining of his own Ju-on: The Grudge 2. The stories are different—with both of the American translations co-written by Stephen Susco—but really, it doesn’t matter. In fact, you may as well play the trailer over and over again for about 95 minutes and save your bucks. All of the films involve a Tokyo home in which a man murdered his wife and son. His viral rage, along with the victims’ wraiths, lives on in the house, cursing everyone who enters and the people with whom they come into contact. (There’s more, but good luck piecing it together.) Sarah Michelle Gellar played Karen, a Japan-based hospice nurse assigned to take care of a nearly comatose woman who lived there, in the 2004 movie. Here, the character’s si ... " [More]

"I have to say that I loved both Vanishings. Was the original Dutch? I can't remember. Anyway, that was a great psychological thriller and the ending still disturbs me when I think of it. I have to agree with IronAbacus too, I really enjoy Asian horror the best I think. I loved the Ringu movies, the American Ring was really great, but the second one was just horrible in my opionion, but I absolutely loved Ringu 2, it so spooky. I think I love Asian scary movies because it is more supernatural than blood and gore. I love ghost stories and wondering what's around the corner in the dark, or under the table. So cool. Have you seen Two Sisters? That was really good and very sad. I did like the ending though. The Ju-on movies were much scarier to me than the American versions, although I did really enjoy Grudge 2. To be honest, I think I really liked Brotherhood of the Wolf because of the excellent choreography of the fight scenes, the mystery of what the creature w ... " [More]

"Unlike the first film, this one left me bored and feeling like I wasted a good hour and a half. The first one was fun and gave a few good scares that made you jump. And the creepy girl with that freaky noise she made...loved it! But in this...there was no redeeming quality I could find. The plot jumped around too much, the creepy girl and the the lil cat boy...not so scary. I guess the "sequel" rule really applies here. In my opinion...it was better left unseen...or un-made for that matter! " [More]

"Horror films made for original video should not be this good | ●●●●○ | IMDb | SpoutIt’s a very nice house.“It’s practically new,” says real-estate agent Tatsuya Suzuki. “And,” he adds, “it’s near the train station.” Also, it’s on the market for a song. The only problem is the previous occupants. They’re still there. There’s Kayako Saeki—she’s dead—and her little boy Toshio—he’s dead, too—along with Mar the housecat—dead as well. They died, implies the film, “in a powerful rage,” and their deaths unleashed a ju-on or curse, so that anyone who so much as steps foot in the house receives a phone call or a visit from one of the deceased and winds up just as dead as they are, “and a new curse is born,” or so the film explains. As it happens, at least five other curses were born, and that’s only if you count the sequels.Ju-on (2000) comes by way of ... "I did not see the first one. I did not want to see it after hearing the reviews, which is unfortunate considering how excited I was by the previews for the movie. I felt the first one was going to emulate the feeling that I get when I play the silent hill games. After hearing the first one flopped, you can imagine my desire to see the second one. I heppened to be in the room when the second one was playing. So, this is written by someone that did not want to see the damn movie, and only looked away from his work long enough to see if the movie was going anywhere. It didn't, by the way. From beginning to end, this movie banks off of trying to scare you by making you jump. I can go for that but only when in the right mood. This movie is an extraordinary failure in creating that mood. Ignorant people should flock to this one. They will find everything that they could desire from cliches. From the school girls with nothing better to do, to lead solving the dumb mystery be ... " [More]
