Directed by Menno Meyjes.
Adapted from a Hugo and Nebula Award-winning novelette by author David Gerrold, Menno Meyjes's Martian Child stars John Cusack as a widowed science fiction writer who adopts a boy (Bobby Coleman) who claims to be from the Red Planet. The writer believes the child acts strangely in order to process the difficulty he has had in his young life, but soon both he and his sister (Joan Cusack) begin to wonder if the boy might be telling the truth. Amanda Peet co-stars as the woman who becomes a mother figure for the boy. ~ Perry Seibert, All Movie Guide

"The most endearing movie!Personally, I loved it, although I can understand some people thinking it starts off slow maybe? This is definitely not a movie for true believers in a normal “functional” society. I enjoyed every second of it, it was extremely realistic, the people were very down to earth, and Denis was a phenomenal character, it was interesting, touching, moving, inspirational... a brilliant movie about a little Martian Mozart. I suppose this is the sort of film you have to really want to see before you see it- its not the kind of thing you can just walk into and instantly understand where they’re taking this... but honestly, I think that the script was well written, that the chemistry between many of the actors was perfect... I will love this movie for probably a long time :] " [More]

I hope these reviews aren't coming off as trivial, I just don't want to give too much information away before you see it. This movie does have some slow parts and there's a lot of repetitive behavior. So some times moments in the movie can appear tedious. But really it's just a slow moving story about love between a man who tries to go outside of himself to help an alien boy. I'm a sucker for repetitious characters and I love the fact that Joan and John are constantly in films together. It makes me feel like a part of their family and it makes it that much more believable. The little boy in the movie was also in Must Love Dogs with Cusack and It just goes to show that it's all about who y ... " [More]
