Three young men leave behind a land in chaos to find new lives in a thoroughly different culture in this documentary. As the African nation of Sudan fell into political disarray near the dawn of the 21st century, with unspeakable violence following in its wake, thousands of refugees attempted to flee the country, making their way into Kenya in hopes of earning passage elsewhere. Jon Bul Dau, Daniel Abu Pach, and Panther Bior were three such people who eventually came to the United States, and filmmaker Christopher Quinn spent four years following them on their journey in a new and unfamiliar land. In God Grew Tired of Us, Quinn documents the young men as they struggle to build new lives for themselves, acquaint themselves with the "American" way of doing things, the difficulties of being black in a primarily white culture, and try to track down the friends and family they were forced to leave behind. God Grew Tired of Us received its North American premier at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival; actor Brad Pitt served as the film's executive producer. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

"By now everyone should be familiar with the genocide and civil war taking place in Sudan. The roots of the conflict stem from the era of Anglo colonization of the continent. As England retreated from its former colonial territories it merged separate ethnic communities into unnatural nations, much like Iraq. The wounds of ethnic struggles have erupted into the current wave of war and atrocities sweeping Sudan. One of the by-products of this new hostility are the so-called “Lost Boys”. 27’000 young men fled the country en masse, navigating open savanna, desert, and the wilds of Africa. They found refuge in makeshift tent cities littered throughout Kenya and as far south as Johannesburg. God Grew Tired of Us follows the progress of three lost boys; Daniel, Panther and John, from a refugee camp in Kenya as they attempt to integrate themselves into the American Dream. At every turn they are overwhelmed by new sights and experiences, and are always wistful for the ho ... " [More]

"God Grew Tired of Us Orphaned by a tumultuous civil war in the Sudan and traveling barefoot across the sub-Saharan desert, John, Daniel and Panther were among the 25,000 "Lost Boys" who fled villages, formed surrogate families and sought refuge from famine, disease, wild animals and attacks from rebel soldiers. They traveled together for five years and against all odds crossed into the UN's refugee camp in Kenya, where they were selected to re-settle in the United States. Director Christopher Quinn explores the indomitable spirit of these three "Lost Boys," who triumph over seemingly insurmountable adversities to build active and fulfilling new lives while remaining deeply committed to helping those left behind. Narrated by Nicole Kidman. “A moving documentary that informs, entertains and inspires.” - USA Today - Claudia Puig Website: http://www.godgrewtiredofus.co m/ Special Screening of God Grew Tired of Us Join us for a special weekend screening featuring mu ...
