Directed by Michael Bay.
Blockbuster action director Michael Bay delivers a striking look at a strange world of the future in this sci-fi action drama. Midway through the 21st century, Lincoln Six Echo (Ewan McGregor) lives in a confined indoor community after ongoing abuse of the Earth has rendered most of the planet uninhabitable. One of the only places in the outside world still capable of sustaining life is an idyllic island where citizens are chosen to live through a lottery. Or at least that's what Lincoln and his fellow citizens are taught to believe; the truth is that Lincoln, like everyone he knows, is actually a clone who is kept under wraps to provide needed organs when the person who supplied his or her DNA falls ill. When he becomes aware that his existence is a fraud, Lincoln escapes to the outside world with a fellow clone, Jordan Two Delta (Scarlett Johansson), though the powers that be are determined to see that no one gets away alive. The Island also stars Steve Buscemi, Djimon Hounsou, Michael Clarke Duncan, and Sean Bean. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

"Too bad his screenplay was plagiarized... As a first-time outing without the overadrenalized Jerry Bruckheimer, ‘The Island’ comes off as a well considered project. While few of the ideas posited in this new film are ‘new’, Bay and screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci have done a more than serviceable job of recycling ideas from other movies that arrived D.O.A. ‘The Island’ is, of course, a remake of ‘Parts:The Clonus Horror‘ (1979), one of the most sordid of D-grade Mystery-Science Theater 3000 candidates, ever. ‘Clonus’ was ‘Coma‘ (1978) made on a budget of $256,000. Straight-to-video? Straight-to-the-SciFi Channel? Not even close. Even Albert Pyun never managed to stink up celluloid so badly - though he’s come close, many a time. However this is a review of ‘The Island’ and not ‘The Clonus Horror’.'The Island’ is a good movie, built on a solid script, excellen ... " [More]

"I must say it is great to have someone preview movies for you and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this one. Scarlet was way hot in this movie... wow, I think I want to be her. The plot was easy to guess and had the Soilent Green/Total Recall feel to it but still fun. I would like to have had more of the cool surgery scenes but then the movie would have been way too long. Give this one a chance, you might like it. " [More]

"Ok, so I am not going to lie. The trailer looked ok, but the reviews were not stellar. But I will give you two words on why it eventually ended up in my queue on Netflix, Scarlett Johansson. I admit it, I'm a man, I might watch a movie because it has a beautiful woman in it. But women do it too, they will watch a movie just because it has Reese Witherspoon in it. Or Vin Diesel. So don't hold it against me. Any way back to the island. I was delightfully surprised. I really, really liked it. Like I have said before in my post about Crash. The music really makes a movie and it draws you in. The score for this was perfect. And the plot worked really well. Chalk another one up for Michael Bay. And in this one the action didn't really seem over the top like some of his other movies. So I don't really know if we will be growing humans and harvesting them for body parts as part of our insurance policies in 13 years, but it was still a great movie. And of course Scarlett di ...
