Directed by Robert Schwentke.
A woman is forced to prove her own sanity to save the life of her daughter in this taut thriller. Kyle Pratt (Jodie Foster) is a successful aircraft designer who has recently been dealing with the traumatic death of her husband. After traveling to Berlin on business with her six-year-old daughter, Julia (Marlene Lawston), Kyle falls asleep on their flight back to New York, only to discover that her daughter has gone missing. While not knowing where Julia has gone is troubling enough, even more disturbing is the insistence by sky marshal Gene Carson (Peter Sarsgaard) and Captain Rich (Sean Bean) that no records indicate that the child ever boarded the jet. As Kyle becomes increasingly desperate to find her daughter, she must prove to the men in charge that her daughter did in fact board the plane with her, and that this turn of events is not a product of her imagination. But if Julia has gone missing, who has taken her and why? Also starring Erika Christensen and Kate Beahan, Flightplan was the first English-language feature from German director Robert Schwentke. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

"By Tricia Olszewski With M. Night Shyamalan still in hiding after The Village, you’d think big-budget suspense movies would have given up on the Big Surprise for a while. But no, here it is again in Flightplan—and you won’t buy it for a minute. Fortunately, even as you’re scoffing at this apparently requisite revelation, the film works itself back into a frenzy and returns to being fun, fun, fun. And by “fun,” of course, I mean edge-of-your-seat-tense. It’s Jodie Foster’s own little Red Eye as she plays Kyle Pratt, a recent widow who’s flying to New York from Berlin, where she works in aeronautics. Traveling with her is her 6-year-old daughter, Julia (Marlene Lawston), the kind of movie moppet who draws a heart on the cold airplane window when she sees her dad’s casket getting loaded into the cargo bay. After takeoff, Kyle and Julia spread out in some empty rows and fall asleep; when Kyle wakes up, Julia’s gone. Bec ... " [More]

"Well, I watched Flightplan for free, as we have a bit of an office swap going because two people, myself included, are addicted to movies and like to watch bunches. I'll watch anything, but I'm pretty picky about liking something. This movie had some tension and suspense, but it was altogether predictable. And somewhat beyond belief - in order to render the plot plausible, an airplane had to be invented that seats 440 people on two levels (kind of like a double decker). It would have a lounge for drinks and a first class area that seats people in large lounge chairs. You would also be able to crawl around the mechanical parts of the plane, even mid-flight. It would also have to contain an in-flight conspiracy. I wanted to watch it because I like Jodie Foster, but this movie is mere popcorn fluff and not very good popcorn fluff at that. The test: will she be buying it? My answer: a solid no. " [More]

"I don't want to see this because I don't think it has a good storyline. It sounds very unrealistic. I can also just imagine near the end of the movie where the few survivors left are bloody, sweaty, tired and limping/dragging themselves around the plane - and it bothers me because it seems like thats always how "airplane movies" are near the end.
