Created by Keiko Nobumoto (Cowboy Bebop), the half-hour Wolf's Rain was, like many another Japanese anime series, set in a post-apocalyptic future. This time around, the human characters lived in domed cities, surrounded by a devastated world. Meanwhile, the Earth's surviving wolves, presumed extinct for two centuries, had managed to disguise themselves as humans to survive. The plotline focused on four young humanized wolves, each named for a part of the wolf "makeup": Kiba (Fang), Tsume (Claw), Hige (Whisker) and Toboe (Howl). Inspired by the vision of Flower Maiden Cheza and spurred on by the scent of the Lunar Flowers, the quartet set out to find the legendary "wolf paradise" of Rakunan. There was only one hitch -- if and when the wolves finally located Rakunan, the world would come to an end! First telecast in Japan on January 6, 2003, Wolf's Rain consisted of 26 episodes, plus four OAV episodes -- produced exclusively for home video -- which wrapped up the story. The entire series made its American debut courtesy of Cartoon Network on April 24, 2004. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

superdrive0superdrive0 Sad Anime

"So, what are some of the saddest anime you've seen? I think Grave of the Fireflies is going to be a given here, but what other anime makes you sad? Some of the sadder ones I've seen are Fullmetal Alchemist and Wolf's Rain. Cowboy BeBop gets pretty depressing towards the end, and Paradise Kiss has a really sad ending too. Personally, I like watching sad anime better than comedies (even though the comedies are still very good and entertaining), just because their plots always seem a lot deeper, and it's easier to get caught up in them and relate to their emotions. So, what do you guys think? " [More]

"You could check out our group's lists. They are divided into different genres and have a lot of anime in them, so they would probably be very helpful to you. As for my personal recommendations, my favorite titles include Fullmetal Alchemist, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Ouran High School Host Club, Wolf's Rain, The Irresponsible Captain Tylor, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Mushi-shi, and Kashi-mashi. I would also recommend watching any of Studio Ghibli's films. I can make many more recommendations if you'd like, thought I'd just give you a few to start you off though. :) " [More]

"I'm currently in the process of watching Wolf's Rain. However, I've become very confused by something. How many episodes are there in the series? I've seen it listed some places as 30 episodes, and some as only 26. Are there OVAs or something that are causing people to think there are more, or did the dub just not release every episode? Also, currently I have the Complete Collection I, and I want to get the Complete Collection II so I can finish the series. However, I can not figure out what this second collection contains. I assumed it just had the second half of the series that wasn't in the first collection, but bestbuy.com listed it as having episode 9 - 26, which overlaps with some of the episodes in the first collection. None of the other sites I've looked at tell which episodes this collection contains. I'm also wondering if I'd be missing out by only getting 26 episodes when there's really 30. Well, if anyone knows anything about this I&# ... " [More]

"I feel that subs are better because in most shows they take out the most violent parts when they dub them and it screws up the entire series makin people think that its just a little kid show with no violence or any adult humor at all " [More]

"I actually saw the Cowboy Bebop movie a while ago when I was in the Calvin College Anime Club. I thought it was ok, but I didn't love it which is why it wasn't on my list. I did like the character of Eddy...or whatever that tech savvy little girl was named. She was funny and I liked her costumes. Perhaps I should have started with the series. Where do you get your episodes from? Are they available at stores like Blockbuster? I used to have Blockbuster Online...but I just wasn't watching as many movies as I wanted to while paying the 17 bucks a month...maybe I should give it another shot! Hah, perhaps that would curb my WoW enthusiasm a bit. Thanks for the suggestions DJS. I will check into Wolf's Rain as well.Matt " [More]

"I'm down! It seems like you've seen most of the biggest name stuff as far as movies go. I know of some more that you haven't, but I haven't seen them either, so I can't really recommend them. Except for the Cowboy Bebop movie, but I'd recommend watching the whole series before the movie. I think that series is probably the one that has brought the most people into becomming anime fans. I think it was made by some of the same people as Wolf's Rain as well. But if you watch a few episodes of Cowboy Bebop, I'd be surprised if you don't get hooked. " [More]
