Directed by Adam Shankman.
The toughest man in the American military faces a new kind of challenge -- looking after four kids in soccer-mom suburbia -- in this family-friendly comedy from Walt Disney Pictures. Shane Wolf (Vin Diesel) is a former Navy SEAL who was assigned to protect a scientist working on a top-secret defense project for the government. Despite Wolf's efforts, however, an assassin slipped past him and murdered the man he was guarding. The inventor's project is still being stored in his home, so Wolf has now been assigned to protect Julie (Faith Ford), the scientist's widow, as well as her four children, Zoe (Brittany Snow), Seth (Max Thieriot), Lulu (Morgan York), and baby Peter (Kegan Hoover and Logan Hoover). Wolf has had years of military experience in some of the most dangerous places on Earth, but he doesn't know much about raising kids, and he soon discovers his new job demands he be a nanny as much as a bodyguard. The Pacifier also co-stars Brad Garrett, Lauren Graham, and Carol Kane. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

"It happens eventually to every filmmaker and actor associated with R-rated movies*, and now Eli Roth, the “torture porn auteur” who gave us Hostel and Hostel II, is making the transition to family-friendly fare — in order to make the kids happy, of course. No, it has nothing to do with the money, which comes more easily with younger-targeted, lower-rated releases (especially when your last movie disappoints). It has to do with the realization that kids don’t have enough movies made for them, and they’d apparently like to see what Eli Roth’s talent is like. Only, up until now, they haven’t been allowed. As Roth defends the move: “Everyone I know has been saying ‘When are you gonna do a movie my kids can see?’ And finally, I’m gonna make a movie that 13-year-old kids can see.” The movie, which Roth is still scripting, is described as being inspired by Cloverfield and Transformers, with all the “mass-destruction” and “chaos and pandemonium” that would entail. But it won’t be too scar ... " [More]

"By Tricia Olszewski The sight of Vin Diesel covered in crap after crawling through a sewer is not as satisfying as one might think—which means there’s no good reason for The Pacifier to exist. Brought to us by Bringing Down the House director Adam Shankman and Taxi writers Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon, the film is a clear ripoff of bruiser-turned-babysitter flicks such as Mr. Nanny and Kindergarten Cop—and exactly the kind of kids’ flick that should have self-respecting parents just saying no. No more fart jokes. No more Home Alone–style pratfalls. And for God’s sake, no more guns and explosions. Regardless of what you think about the XXX star’s head-scratching attempt at comedy, when The Pacifier opens, it actually seems like a Vin Diesel movie. Diesel plays Shane, a Navy SEAL involved in some anti-Serbian dealings that leave a few ships blown up and several men dead. (Having family fun yet?) Shane takes a bullet himself but after a short ... " [More]
