Directed by David Dobkin.
Two guys find out the hard way that sneaking into the wrong party can cause serious problems in this comedy. Jeremy Klein (Vince Vaughn) and John Beckwith (Owen Wilson) are a pair of longtime friends who work for a law firm, helping contentious couples mediate their divorces. Their job has given them a cynical attitude about marriage, and as a hobby each weekend the two make a point of crashing weddings reception, where they load up on free food and booze and try their luck at seducing the bridesmaids. When William Cleary (Christopher Walken), the nation's Secretary of the Treasury and a possible candidate for the Presidency, announces his daughter is to wed, the nuptials are billed as the social event of the year, and Jeremy and John decide they must attend the reception. However, John makes the mistake of falling head over heels for Claire (Rachel McAdams), the bride's sister, while Jeremy attracts the attentions of a woman he'd prefer not to be involved with, and soon their romantic peccadilloes get them in very hot water. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

"Bob Iger says Disney’s Hong Kong thene park had a rough second year because his researchers drastically under-estimated how long it takes to eat lunch. “There were longer lines to eat than to ride Space Mountain.” Oh, and iTunes makes money. Warner Brothers is trying to coax New Line’s Toby Emmerich to take a newly-created position as head of the pared-down, independent studio. WB wants to refashion New Line into a boutique producing half a dozen films a year at no more than than $50 million each. Variety says this could throw a wrench into a few proposed New Line projects, including (obviously) The Hobitt, and (not so obviously) a sequel to Wedding Crashers. Adjust that 2005 film’s budget for inflation and you’re up to just over $43 million; are we to assume that the remaining seven million is to spent on keeping both Fred Claus and Drillbit Taylor on retainer? The Hollywood Film Festival is adding the Hollywood Trailer Awards to their October slate of festivities.  Yeah, I know–I ... " [More]

"Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson are a riot and the movie definitely has some great parts. It is almost every high school or college guys dream to pull off what they were able to do. Not a flick I would see with my mom, but it truly is funny. Would rent it again. " [More]

"Vince Vaughn & Owen Wilson may be one of the best comedy duos in recent memory. This movie isn’t as laugh out loud hysterical in my opinion as others’ seem to think it is, but it’s still a pretty funny flick. " [More]

"As more films like Knocked Up and The 40-Year-Old Virgin continue to make money and get released, I become more and more disturbed with the direction of the entertainment industry. Under no circumstance should a film about pregnancy outside of marriage be funny. I don't understand how our society has decided to accept that pre-marital sex is not only okay, but encouraged. I may be speaking under false pretense as I have not actually seen Knocked Up, but the idea behind the film makes my stomach cringe. I don't really know what more to say. To be honest, if I did actually see the film, I would probably laugh quite a bit, but that is exactly what the producers and directors of a film like this expect. The entertainment industry has decided that anything goes, and anything that can get a buck is something that needs to be made. This couldn't be more clear in a film like Wedding Crashers, which is absolutely hilarious, but to be honest is almost like a softcore porn in some ... " [More]

"Great topic!!! I'll play.tmoney - my #1 is your #51.) Anchorman - Don't get me wrong. I actually like Will Ferrell. But not in this stupid movie. He made me want to hit him. Seriously.2.) Wedding Crashers - Please tell me why this movie is supposed to be funny. I'm asking. Oh, and Will Ferrell appeared in this one too. Hey, I thought he was hilarious as Ricky Bobby. I always say it's a crapshoot with him.3.) Citizen Kane - Ok, before you start hurling tomatoes, hear me out. Yes, it was a breakthrough. Yes, it was ahead of its time. Is it the greatest movie of all time????? Why? The movie is sooooooo boring! I like cerebral films, I do. I like those kinds of quasi-biographical quasi-allegorical type films. I don't hate it completely, but I'm tired of everyone telling me it's the best there is. I still think Casablanca and The Godfather are both far better movies, and they're entertaining too. Those movies have it all! Sorry, Orson. ... " [More]

"Here are the facts: the Adam Sandler gay-sham com I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry won the weekend box office derby, pulling in about $35 million to Harry Potter and The What Kind Of Magical Scrape Have These Spooky Kids Conjured Up Now?!?’s $32 million. $35 million is a significant opening take, and it would not have been possible to rack up if Sandler’s base audience had been turned off by the pic’s pro-gay tolerance theme. Not only was the gay marriage thing not a problem–it might have been a plus. Just look at the numbers: Adam Sandler fans are more likely to rush out opening weekend see their guy pretend to pretend to be gay, than watch him in a serious film about post-9/11 ennui…by a factor of seven. And now, here’s the spin: Jeff Wells, LAist and the New York Times think Mr. Potter’s 58% weekend-to-weekend decline may have been the result of Harry Potter overload. LAist has the better quip: “My guess is that the release of Deathly Hallows cost Order of the Phoenix a secon ... " [More]

"Another movie borrowed from my co-worker...and I was expecting hilarity in spades. Man, was I disappointed! I barely laughed at this movie. It never struck me as laugh-out-loud funny. I chuckled a few times, mostly at Vince Vaughn's character (Jeremy) and the absurd situations he found himself in with the dysfunctional political family, but otherwise, I was bored. I kept wondering, would anyone really crash a wedding? And Owen Wilson was not funny to me. And I find it really unlikely that even while her boyfriend (it's Will from Alias!) was truly a "Sack," the Rachel McAdams character would then fall for the utterly dishonest Owen Wilson character (John). And even the cameo by one of my favorites, Will Ferrell, left me a bit on the disappointed side because he barely let loose. The funniest character in this movie was the psycho sister that Vince Vaughn mistakenly beds as one of his wedding crash conquests but then ends up falling for in the end. I don't usually watch the ... " [More]

Having worked with both Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn in other movies, director David Dobkin clearly understood how to combine their comedic skills in Wedding Crashers. Wilson's laid-back openness meshes perfectly with Vaughn's remarkable ability to be simultaneously totally selfish and incredibly loyal. The film opens with a rather long montage that shows how the pair act at the various expensive weddings they crash, and this sequence does nothing more than reveal behavior. There is no plot at this point for the audience to be taken in by. Dobkin feels such confidence in his performers and in his material that he takes his time while never sacrificing quality funny moments. The audience understands both of these guys so well by the time the plot kicks in that Dobkin can mix big set pieces (like a family dinner with outrageous behavior happening both above and below the table) with more intimate scenes between the characters. There are storylines that dead-end, most specifically and alarmingly the casual disappearance of Jane Seymour from the film after her big scene, but the sharp editing, confident pace, solid story structure, and winning performances by the leads (as well as Isla Fisher and Rachel McAdams) made Wedding Crashers one of the most enjoyable Hollywood comedies of the 2005 summer season. ~ Perry Seibert, All Movie Guide
