A not-so-ordinary family finds a new way of paying the bills in this comedy. Dick Harper (Jim Carrey) and his wife, Jane (Téa Leoni), would seem to have it made -- Dick has a high-paying job, they live in an expensive house in the suburbs, they have two luxury cars in the driveway, and a housekeeper, Blanca (Gloria Garayua), to help look after their son, Billy. But Dick and Jane's fairy-tale life crashes head-on into reality when the firm Dick works for turns out to have been using unscrupulous accounting methods to disguise the fact they've been losing money hand over fist, and Dick has been made the fall guy for some of their dirty dealings. Suddenly flat broke, Dick and Jane must find a new way to support their lavish lifestyle, and in time they discover just the thing -- crime. A remake of Ted Kotcheff's 1977 hit (which helped re-launch Jane Fonda's screen career), Fun With Dick and Jane also stars Alec Baldwin, John Michael Higgins, and Angie Harmon. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

"I'm thinking a few people here on Spout were turned off to some of "Fun With Dick And Jane's" obvious jabs at the Republican Party, but I personally thought it gave this silly little movie a bit more of a bite. It's nice to see Jim Carrey in a flat-out comedy, but one scene bugged me - the "I Believe I Can Fly" scene. All of the previews and ads just killed the comedy of that scene. I loved Alec Baldwin's performance...reminded me of another clueless individual...hmmm. A minor piece of fluff, this, but worth it just to hear some uppity Republicans grumble. Ha! In yer eye! "FUN WITH DICK AND JANE**PG-13 (for brief language, some sexual humor and occasional humorous drug references).1hr. 25 min.written by: Judd Apatow, Nicholas Stoller, & Peter Tolanproduced by: Jim Carrey & Brian Grazerdirected by: Dean ParisotThis past Tuesday a bunch of us fellas high-tailed over to the five dollar theater to catch a movie. It was kinda slim pickin' as far as choices. Some have already seen this while others didn't wanna see that. So, we decided on this here flick. Everyone figured it'd be good for a laugh. I went in not expected too much and it turned out I was neither disappointed or surprised. I had "fun" hanging out with the fellas but not so much with "Dick and Jane."In the year 2000....Dick (Jim Carrey) and Jane Harper (Tea Leoni) are living the ideal life in Southern California. Dick has an executive position at mega-corporation, Globodyne. Jane works as a travel agent. Both successful careers. They live in a beautiful house complet ... " [More]

"I didn't think this movie was very good, even though I usually like any movie that Jim Carrey is in. I realized in the first scene that it was supposed to be unrealistic, but I think it would have been better if it had been more believable. The characters were not developed well - there was no reason for them to have a son or a maid, the only thing they had to do with the plot is that you kept wondering...don't they have a son, where is he? There were lots of "funny" parts, but they were only funny because it was Jim Carrey, not because the movie was funny. I wouldn't recommend this movie, not even to a Jim Carrey fan. Oh and also I don't like Teo Leoni. " [More]
