When the puzzle box is solved and the gates of hell are cast open, an old nemesis must prevent the fearsome Cenobites from turning the Earth into a flaming pit of eternal torment in this installment of the long-running Hellraiser series. In his entire demonic history, only Kirsty Cotton (Ashley Lawrence) has ever had the power to defeat the mighty Pinhead (Doug Bradley). Now that the puzzle has been solved again, Pinhead is back, and Kirsty must summon the powers of light to defeat the fury of hell and send her old nemesis screaming into the fire. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

"Redemption for the Hellraiser franchise. The best pinhead movie since the original two. It's about time they give pinhead the right kinda character. A very interesting story and an unexpected ending. I thought it was by far the 3rd greatest Hellraiser. If you like pinhead as more of a psychological monster rather than a killer then you'll like this one " [More]

"Sigourney Weaver, is a great choice. I also like Kersten from Hellraiser I, II, and VI (I think). AND she is still alive and well in the Hellraiser universe (she hasen't been killed off.......yet) " [More]

is neutral about it.
Poor Kirsty Cotton (Ashley Laurence): just as she's about to get her life together after escaping the pain-obsessed Cenobites from hell, her husband, Trevor (Dean Winters), drives her into a river in a traffic accident. Trevor recovers but begins having bizarre hallucinations that turn out to be real, and he's a suspect in several murders. Kirsty's body, meanwhile, has vanished. And at this point, the Hellraiser faithful know what's going on, while newcomers may be mystified -- at least briefly. This sixth entry in the 15-year-old franchise is a solid enough genre offering with a few suspenseful surprises, but Pinhead fans will be disappointed by how seldom the Cenobites appear. Veteran director of photography Rick Bota, making his feature-length debut, delivers striking visuals, with a haunting blue wash tinting much of the spooky footage, and he somehow keeps the back-and-forth story coherent. The grotesque finale is borrowed from the first film, but newcomers to the series won't mind. Future installments will want to focus on the franchise's strengths -- Pinhead and his pals -- to keep new fans intrigued and to draw back veteran devotees who were let down by hardly worthy previous installments. ~ Buzz McClain, All Movie Guide
