Directed by Neil Marshall.
British director Neil Marshall's directorial debut Dog Soldiers resurrects and embraces the low-budget horror-comedy. Sergeant Harry Wells (Sean Pertwee) leads a team of British soldiers on a routine expedition to the Scottish Highlands. The six men would rather be at home watching the game, but they are even more dismayed when a carcass lands on their campfire. The next morning, they happen upon a severely injured Captain Richard Ryan (Liam Cunningham) and the bloody remains of his squadron. Soon they are attacked by giant werewolf beasts and chased through the woods, only to be saved by zoologist Megan (Emma Cleasby), who explains some of the truth about the creatures. They all take refuge in an old farmhouse while the threat of the monsters looms increasingly heavy. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, All Movie Guide

"A group of soldiers ,holed up in a farmhouse, quite a cute farmer's daughter on hand..WereWolves!!! are trying to get them..they have a limited supply of ammunition(now THAT part is definitely NOT fantasy) ..basically,what's not to like?..pushes all the right buttons, with a very good cast..Sean Pertwee , i always enjoy watching( i loved his Dad in "Dr Who"and "the Navy Lark" on radio, for years).. Kevin Mckidd ,who is apparently a current U.S tv star?,(cant remember the name of the show, something about time travel)..most will remember him from "Trainspotting"..i used to get him mixed up with Daniel Craig (James Bond)..it's all good... liked it.
"I've only been to one or two double features in my life, but they were both great experiences. Even though Kill Bill Vol. 1 was preceded by Payback instead of the original Point Blank! Even though the movies at the drive-in were S.W.A.T. and Bad Boys 2! Some double features I'd pay to see anywhere: 1. Escape From New York, then Doomsday 2. Bucket of Blood, then The Abominable Dr. Phibes 3. The Black Scorpion, then The Mighty Peking Man 4. If You Live, Shoot! then Point Blank 5. Dog Soldiers, then Big Trouble in Little China " [More]

"This movie is so awesome.  Werewolves and soldiers, how cool is that.  Both are clever beasts armed, one with bullets and the other with blades (claws).  And it being Scottish is an added bonus.  I'm a dork who loves werewolf movies almost as much as I love shark movies, and this one is probably my favorite. "There is only one problem with your secret 'fantasy', Cutie... er, 'Froggy'... , and that is, by all accounts, once you are transformed you have no control over WHO you choose to kill... (notice I said 'kill' and not 'eat'!)... In other words, once you are transformed you have the 'bloodlust' upon you! You would view ALL people as 'something to KILL' and Not, necessarily, as FOOD! And it doesn't matter WHO that person is.... you would only want him/her DEAD! Just look to where it all started with Lon Chaney Jr.'s portrayal in a FEW of the old 'Universal' movies! "The Wolfman" , "Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man" , "House Of Frankenstein" , etc. ... In ALL of these examples the 'victims' are described as "...having thier throats torn out as if by some beast... a WOLF, maybe..." ... There is no mention of them having been 'devoured' in any way! Although it IS 'hinted' at a bi ... " [More]

is neutral about it.
Dog Soldiers is a rare example of a horror comedy that actually works. It's Cockney trash-talking soldiers vs. werewolves plot serves it perfectly as guns blaze and conventions get turned on their heads in this high-action romp. Gore-hounds will no doubtedly be happy to hear that this sucker pulls no punches either! You get lots of the red stuff here, as first-time director Neil Marshall piles it on thick and juicy as our heroes meet these Howling-esque lycanthropes head on, armed with everything from kitchen knives to M-16s. And what werewolves they are! Bob Keen's practical effects are fantastic and even better knowing the small budget he had to work with. Dog Soldiers originally aired in America on the Sci-Fi Channel as a weak, cut up version -- to fully enjoy this sucker, you should sink your teeth into Artisan's R-rated home video and DVD releases. They're definitely worth a look, and for werewolf fans, it doesn't get any more fun than this. ~ Jeremy Wheeler, All Movie Guide
