Directed by Sam Irvin
Sam Irvin directed this 2001 send-up of the classic horror films of the '50s and '60s. Starring Cassandra Peterson as her tradmark character, Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, the film finds the well-endowed goth gal spending the night in a mysterious house while en route to Paris, France, circa 1851. Once there, the spooky gags fly as the movie lampoons everything from the work of Roger Corman to the Hammer films. Along with Peterson, the film also stars Richard O'Brien, Mary Scheer, Scott Atkinson, and Heather Hopper. ~ Matthew Tobey, All Movie Guide

Wise-cracking, breast-obsessed pop icon Elvira (Cassandra Peterson) pays daffy, harmless homage to the Roger Corman/Hammer horror films of the '60s in this well-constructed, joke-a-minute send-up. The spoof elements clearly are secondary to Peterson's sarcastic persona as she gets off memorable zingers and confidently treads into Mel Brooks territory. The Romanian production looks appropriately cartoony and the cast is clearly on board. It doesn't hurt to have Richard O'Brien in the cast, who brings back memories of the camp fun of the similarly paced The Rocky Horror Picture Show (which he wrote and starred in). Only the few who do not know Elvira's legacy and reputation will be surprised/offended/disappointed; those who enjoy her "Mistress of the Dark" shtick will be amused from beginning to end. ~ Buzz McClain, All Movie Guide
