Directed by Alan Cohn
After getting kicked out of law school, fast-talking Jay Garvey (Brad Raider) and his failed medical school pal, Nick (Sean Murray), discover that the wild beach partiers during college spring break need legal assistance to stay out of jail. Their business takes off, with Jay double-talking the judge into acquittals and Nick writing phony doctor's notes for defendants, until Jay becomes a local pop culture legend. But self-righteous Senator Claxton (Gary Grubbs) decides to crack down on the rampant juvenile behavior with maximum penalties, and Jay and Nick get tossed into the slammer for minor offenses. Meanwhile, the case of a pathetic innocent who was railroaded into jail increases in importance -- particularly with Jay's ostensible girlfriend, Jenny (Busy Philipps) -- and Jay has to use all of his pseudo legal skills to get himself and Nick out of jail to save the day. ~ Buzz McClain, All Movie Guide

is neutral about it.
Not as bad as the title or premise might indicate, Spring Break Lawyer has enough bright humor -- with dozens of scattershot one-liners, comic asides, and fantasy bits -- to make 86 minutes seem like far less. The find here is Brad Raider, who is an appealing, slick combination of Hugh Grant and Ben Stiller. His high-caliber charisma makes up for leading lady Busy Philipps' self-conscious dependence on her pout to convey emotion. The production values are top-notch, the nonstop rock music score works well to speed things along, and the gross-out mayhem is kept to a minimum, although there are plenty of body fluid (and gas) jokes throughout. Consider it a live action cartoon and you'll enjoy the proceedings. Look for cult favorite Adrienne Barbeau as Judge Stern. ~ Buzz McClain, All Movie Guide
