"Last week, Entertainment Weekly confirmed with Warner Bros. that the studio would be campaigning for a nomination for Heath Ledger specifically in the supporting actor category, putting to rest all the speculation and suggestions that he could contend for the Best Actor Oscar. Now all the awards pundits seem to agree that Ledger is a definite lock for a posthumous nomination. As for The Dark Knight’s hopes for other categories, though, it’s still up in the air as to how many nominations the comic book movie might garner. While its predecessor, Batman Begins, only received one Oscar nomination, for Wally Pfister’s cinematography, there’s at least some likelihood that The Dark Knight could be recognized in as many as a dozen categories. That’s about as many as it’s legitimately eligible for, anyway, and in a year that keeps looking slimmer and slimmer in ter "

"As with Moonstruck's appearance on the romantic comedy list, I found myself charmed by many of the selections on the fantasy list, even where I may not have made the choice myself. I was particularly happy to see Groundhog Day (1993) on this Top 10, but, like a number of other films here, the more I thought about the idea of “fantasy”, the more I began to wonder if some weren't misplaced or mis-categorized. Groundhog Day, alongside Harvey (1950), Miracle on 34th Street (1947), and It's a Wonderful Life (1946), may be fantasies, but they are more accurately described as “fables”, that is, as stories that are essentially about life lessons rather than the fantastic, though they may use fantasy elements to tell their stories. Where the three older films are concerned, there are questions that clearly can, and are, raised about what the protagonists have experienced or who they actually are. Is George Bailey (Jimmy Stewart) actually v "

"The man has such an imagination. I love the cinematography in all three movies in the trilogy. I think every actor fits their character. I even heard that Viggo Mortensen got so into his character off set, he would practice with his sword in public and it would sometimes scare off people. Usually books that turn into movies end up either making the fans of the book upset or it doesn't resemble the book and it's genuine structure. The LOTR movies pleased everyone; critics, fans of the books, and people who have never read the books. Because it's quality is so high, this movie is a must see, along with the two others. :) "

"This is a highlight in filmmaking history. An absolute masterpiece in its execution and portrayal of a tale and world we only knew through words. There aren't that many films that will match up to the quality that this one exhibits. This can stand on its own apart from its original medium and the later installments as an epic quest to destroy something so small, but so destructive a thing. "

"Ah, yes. January of 2002...one random Wednesday night. I decided to go see this film after working all day. No one in the theater. Good! It'll be me and the film, no distractions of any kind. I had no idea what I was in for. This film blew me away. I couldn't believe I had to wait a year to see more! Still my favorite and the best of the trilogy, I do believe this is going to be included on the 10th Anniversary of AFI's 100 Greatest American Films list, and it deserves to be there. No other fantasy film lives up to it, and with good reason - the book it is based on pretty much defined the genre! If you haven't seen it, please do yourself a favor and remove yourself from under the rock you reside to SEE THIS MOVIE! Two requests - see it in widescreen and see it on a kick-ass TV - you won't be disappointed. "

"ok....aside from the suspension of disbelief, i'd like to propose a much shorter version of the film that perhaps JRR Tolkien overlooked: Frodo gets the ring. Gandalf finds out.Gandalf Summons a Great Eagle for Frodo to ride on.They get to Mordor in perhaps a day or two. Drop off the ring.Blammo....done. The end. No big battles with huge losses of life.No hobbits getting stabbed in the shoulder. No Elves moving back to Elfy land.but i guess that wouldnt have been as dramatic or engaging. :) "

"Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the RingLord of the Rings: The Two Towers Lord of the Rings: The Return of the KingI think it is fair to say that Peter Jackson's trilogy of the Lord of the Rings is one of the best trilogies ever made. If not the best! Of course I am writing this because I spent all day yesterday watching the three movies! (regular, not extended, editions) and once again I was amazed about how big a failure Frodo turned out to be. Of all the original Fellowship I don't think you can doubt the heroic qualities of Gandalf, Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas. Even Boromir, the most flawed of the Fellowship attains redeemed hero status with his final act of sacrifice in trying to save Merry and Pippin. Speaking of which, of the four Hobbits in the Fellowship, Merry and Pippin, as well as being good comic relief, consistently showed their heroism and intestinal fortitude throughout. That only leaves Sam "
