Directed by Victor Salva.
Writer/director Victor Salva returns to his horror roots with this teen-slasher genre flick, one of several 2001 films produced by Francis Ford Coppola's American Zoetrope studio. Gina Philips and Justin Long are siblings Trish and Darry, road tripping home from college across the U.S. and bickering all the way. Menaced by a truck on the highway, the travelers encounter the same vehicle later, and what they believe is a man dumping a human body into a drainage pipe. Investigating, Darry and Trish become the intended prey of an indestructible, supernatural creature hell-bent on eating them, a murderous local myth that is proving to be all too real. As they attempt to escape their bloodthirsty pursuer, the pair discovers that even the local police station is no refuge; they also receive some advice from a knowledgeable psychic (Patricia Belcher). Jeepers Creepers co-stars Eileen Brennan. ~ Karl Williams, All Movie Guide

"I know a LOT of people think that these movies are stupid but I thought they were fun and very exciting: Jeepers Creepers 1 and 2. In the first movie the truck chasing them down in the car kept me on the edge of my seat, and when they kept wanting to investigate (which was very STUPID) I just knew at any moment they were going to be discovered. In the second movie it was the same, the kids on the school bus...it was pretty exciting. " [More]

"In Jeepers Creepers(Which I did not like, after the "magical black lady" showed up), the scene where Justin Long goes down into that pipe. Which is funny, because the director had said that he made Jeepers Creepers because he was tired of watching horror movies where people did stupid stuff, and he wanted to make a movie without those. And that's one of the stupidest things i've ever seen anyone do in a horror movie. However, the top prize goes to those two unnamed character at the beginning of the Stuff. They find a mysterious white substance bubbling out of the ground and the first thing they decide to do is eat it. " [More]

"I have not yet seen "The Descent" , but I am intending to! Yes, June! I think that ALL of the movies you listed count as 'Horror/Action'! I call them 'Action/Adventure/Horror&# 39; so that I might fit a few more films under that 'umbrella'! Movies like "Jurassic Park" and "Deliverance" and "The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen" ( bet you did not think I could spell that, huh ROBERT? ... Twice, even! ...) I only JUST saw "Alien vs Predator" and I LOVED it! I liked this one BETTER than "Freddy vs Jason"! For a good dose of 'Action/Adventure/Horror&# 39; try Sam Raimi's FIRST movie (!) ... "Thou Shalt Not Kill... Except" " [More]

"One of my favorite horror action movies has to be Resident Evil 1 & 2, but after seeing the Descent, that is pretty high up there on my list now too. Let's see, I think Aliens would rank as an action movie as well as Predator, I also loved Alien vs Predator. I don't think Freddy vs. Jason would be considered that much of an action movie but it comes kind of close. I tell you the car chase scenes in Jeepers Creepers were really heart pounding (but I really don't think I would call that an action movie either...but there was quite a bit in it). What are some other action movies that scared you? " [More]

"This was one film that for sure had one great thing going for it....being original. No where else have I run across a creature feature that had anything on par with this. It was at time a bit choppy but otherwise the Creeper was a "scary as hell" creation. The not so happy ending was the other main reason I loved this film. Like many of the good horror that are overlooked this was near the top of my list. " [More]

"The following are scant memories of movies watched quite possibly a decade or longer ago and have no knowledge whatsoever of the films they belonged to. They're only breif scenes, so it's likely I'll never know until I happen across them again. Anyhow, on the extreme off-chance someone will know them, here goes:I. One flick concerns a guy humming "The Muffin Man" while going around a house, killing, one murder concerning dropping a six-foot metal pole from a second-floor window straight through a dude's chest.II. Another has a cast like Alex Winter's Freaked and for a breif second, until I saw it, I thought it was. The only two things I recall are a guy whose upper teeth were three feet long, down to his navel, and a small creature with no legs who attacks a poor soul who ventured into his room, latching onto his head and hanging on until the end.III. Another is two men in construction hats in what looks like a building site. They have taxidermy-stuffed whit ... " [More]

is neutral about it.
Writer/director Victor Salva's genre offering proves more effective than the standard turn-of-the-century teen horror flick, in large part due to its respect for such essential -- but usually ignored -- elements as suspense, pacing, and atmosphere. Jeepers Creepers forgoes the jokey self-referentiality of the Scream series and the nihilistic, gore-for-gore's-sake quality of, say, Final Destination for a more straightforward approach, and -- at least in his film's first hour -- the choice pays off in a big way. As bickering but devoted siblings terrorized by an inhuman creature, Gina Philips and Justin Long have a natural, believable chemistry, which is particularly helpful when the script veers into some of its more ridiculous conceits. If anything, Salva is too enamored with horror conventions: In the last act, he's determined to throw in psychics, police squad showdowns, and even a few allusions to Quasimodo and The Phantom of the Opera. But for the most part, the script keeps it simple, and thanks to ace cinematography and editing, Jeepers Creepers provides an ample supply of economically presented cheap thrills. ~ Michael Hastings, All Movie Guide
