Directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans.
This sequel to a box-office sleeper hit that spoofed teen slasher flicks takes its cues from haunted house and possession films, particularly The Haunting (1999) and The Exorcist (1973). Although many of the first film's main characters were homicide victims, Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Anna Faris return anyway to "re-possess" their roles for this follow-up in which four students are invited by their professor (Tim Curry) to his haunted mansion, Hell House, for a weekend sleep-deprivation study. Providing the sleep deprivation, however, is a series of murderous, supernatural goings-on. Scary Movie 2 co-stars Tori Spelling, Andy Richter, Christopher Masterson, Kathleen Robertson, James Woods, Chris Elliott, and Natasha Lyonne. ~ Karl Williams, All Movie Guide

"Scary Movie 4It's funny that very rarely to I ever even consider watching the sequel to a horror movie that I consider to be less than really great. In fact I usually don't seek out too many horror movies because I find most of the mediocre. It's funny then that I keep watching this series of fairly mediocre comedy movies that poke fun at those same very mediocre horror series.Actually I can't remember why I ever saw the first Scary Movie. I can't even remember if I saw it at a theater or on DVD. I know I have seen Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood and thought that was amusing (although I was wasted and had no idea what it was at the time) which was made by the same people.I think I found the original Scary Movie to be somewhat amusing, but knew the sequel looked horrible in the previews. Somehow my friend Tom convinced me to go see it with him. I think he even paid for my ticket because no one else would go with ... " [More]

"I know that this one can't compare to the first one but it still had it's funny moments. They spoofed a few of the older movies too from Legend of Hell House, The Changeling, of course the Exocist, Amityville Horror, etc. etc. I love all the Scary Movie Movies. There are a lot of stupid parts but it still cracks me up. I thought the cat fight scene was pretty cute (gross too about the part where she took a dump in the litter box)...anyway, it wasn't the best but I think it's still worth watching. " [More]

"Has anyone here watched this series? They take incredible directors and have them do an hour episode of something scary, creepy, gruesome, ghostly, or all of them rolled up into one. I just watched Dario Argento's Jenifer and have to say, it was a tad gorey, but it was really good. Steven Weber played a cop (he was on Wings) who falls for this victim that has a beautiful body but a MAJORLY disfigured face, she can't talk and acts like a wild animal (sexually and every other way). It's almost like Beauty and the Beast but switched, the man is the beauty and the woman is the beast. Anyway, I watched the interview with Dario Argento (with subtitles although the movie was made in America it was in English) but it was really interesting watching that AND he showed two of the scenes that they cut out...I think the men on this list would flinch BIG TIME. She had this HUGE disfigured mouth with razor sharp teeth, anyway one of the scenes that they had left out where she w ... " [More]

It's obvious Scary Movie 2 was cobbled together quickly after the surprise success of the original, hitting theaters less than a year later and containing of-the-moment parodies that must have been inserted just weeks beforehand. As if it matters, there's little in the way of plot propelling this variety show approach to puerile gags. Only a little less so than the original, the sequel oozes preternatural crassness and grossness, most frequently in the form of projectile bodily fluids -- Exorcist-style vomit, parrot feces, and other unmentionable excretions. But yes, there are laughs in there too, just not enough for this to exceed the status of a sloppy cash cow for Miramax, eager for its share of the summer box office. The actors are basically agreeable, with Anna Faris reprising her nimble pratfalling from the original, James Woods going surprisingly lowbrow, and 90210 alums Tori Spelling and Kathleen Robertson vamping up a storm. Keenen Ivory Wayans knows how to seek out and stab the most familiar parts of our popular consciousness, from Charlie's Angels to The Weakest Link to that Nike ad with the percussive basketball dribbling and shoe squeaking. There's just little thought given to turning them into something coherent. Scary Movie 2 is light on genuine knee-slappers and minutes of film stock (a scant 82), but those who liked the original shouldn't be overly disappointed. ~ Derek Armstrong, All Movie Guide
