Directed by Dominic Sena.
Director Dominic Sena follows up his stylish action film Gone in 60 Seconds (2000) with this high-tech thriller. John Travolta stars as Gabriel Shear, a charismatic spy who plots to steal a multi-billion-dollar fortune in illegal government funds. In order to make his scheme work, however, Gabriel needs some help from a computer hacker, which is where Stanley Jobson (Hugh Jackman) comes in. Stanley has been paroled from prison after serving a lengthy sentence for penetrating the FBI's cyber-surveillance operations. Issued a restraining order that keeps him away from computers and living penniless in a trailer park, Stanley wants only to be reunited with his daughter Holly, who's in the custody of his ex-wife, now remarried to a pornographer. Gabriel and his partner Ginger (Halle Berry) offer Stanley the chance to get his child back in exchange for his help, but the hacker soon realizes he's a pawn in a larger operation than the high-tech bank heist he thought he was perpetrating. In the meantime, a dedicated federal agent (Don Cheadle), the same man who once arrested Stanley, is trying to expose Gabriel's operation. Swordfish also stars Sam Shepard and Zach Grenier. ~ Karl Williams, All Movie Guide

"Interesting movie. It combines the things I like (action movies, and computer hacking). The cast was packed with big name players. I think John Travolta did a great job with his character. The plot had a little of "Kill Bill" theme to it but overall I would watch again. I may even think about purchasing this one. " [More]

"Its been a long time since I have seen a blockbuster action flick end with a strong punch. Perfect Stranger is not a punch like The Departed but you are in for a surprise. It was a well done entertaining film in my eyes. Some may say I am bias but who doenst love all three Die Hards and cant wait for Die Hard 4. And what about Swordfish? Put those together and you have a nice murlder love story with Bruce and Halle. " [More]

"I may have seen too many of these plot- and identity-twisters for this one to be leave much of an impact. I did enjoy Travolta and Jackman, and the opening monolog was clever; so too the wheels within wheels bit with the Finnish hacker, but after the unfortunate hostage explosion, it all got sort of bland and trite from there. Even silly (I mean, lugging a bus through the air? This is someone's idea of realism?). Sometimes the dialog was sharp and sophisticated, sometimes it bordered on the corny. Halle Berry's character wasn't convincing on any level. Not an awful film but not great, either. " [More]

"I just watched Swordfish for the first time this weekend and while not everybody liked the movie, I really found it to have a great plot line. The entire movie is filled with twists and turns and the final ending is a great way to end the film. Maybe it was all the heavy computer geek references in the film, but I found this one surprisingly enjoyable. " [More]
