This romantic comedy in the vein of There's Something About Mary and American Pie concerns the story of Michael Delaney (Jerry O'Connell), a struggling cartoonist who makes a bet with seven buddies over who will be the last to marry. Several years later, the pot has boiled down to two: Michael, who is battling gambling debts in Las Vegas, and diehard bachelor Kyle Bremmer (Jake Busey), who is a self-proclaimed ladies' man. Michael tries to get Kyle to wed within 30 days in order to rescue himself from financial turmoil. When Natalie (Shannon Elizabeth) enters the picture as Kyle's new intended bride (as set up by Michael), she and Michael end up falling for one another, setting up a competition for her affections by the two men. Tomcats is the feature directorial debut for screenwriter Gregory Poirier. ~ Jason Clark, All Movie Guide

"I saw the movie Tomcats (starring Jerry O`Connell, Shannon Elizabeth, Jaime Pressly, Jake Busey and Horatio Sanz). It was a standard 'sex is good, but sex-with-love is Heaven'-comedy—the standard being "excellent," true; but I'll probably forget about it in a week or two.I feel enlightened watching a scene in which Jerry's character is making a deposit in a sperm-bank. It's tastefully filmed (no naughty-parts), but that's not the point. The point is that the 'stimulational' video he watches in order to make his deposit only gets down to the 'making out in underwear' before he imagines being with Shannon's character and manages a deposit of three full cups (compared to his friend's deposit that barely covers the bottom of one cup). This offers a clue as to why cleavage is so attractive—because the true mind of man isn't after the actual 'points of interest' as much as 'the clues that indicate posession of those points.'The man's mind sees the breast's cleavage, and he knows the approx ... "Step aside, Farrelly brothers: The makers of Tomcats have surpassed you in the gross-out-joke department. The arm up the cow's ass in Say It Isn't So is a noble attempt, and the cum-in-the-hair joke in There's Something About Mary will live in infamy, but this latest version of the bachelors-finding-love plot delivers the gaggiest gags of them all. That's unfortunately the only boast that Tomcats can make, and let it be another lesson to the filmmakers of the world that cringe-worthy doesn't equal funny. Tomcats starts out just as every fratboy who'll buy a ticket probably hoped it would: with a parade of flesh and some Penthouse Forum-style situations -- in other words, the kind of movie that any 14-year-old boy with a Hollywood budget would set out to make. (Some of the film is kept realistic, though: These fellas who've dubbed themselves "tomcats" range from puffy and average to I-wanna-punch-him-in-the-face slimy and undesirable. Come on, guys, how a ... " [More]
