Synopsis
This "scenic" was the first of four Pathe films released simultaneously during the first week of April, 1910. Apparently using an early version of a telephoto lens, the cameraman was able to capture some remarkably close shots of birds in their native habitats. Of special interest was an extended sequence in which two birds build a nest and raise a family. Though filmed in black-and-white, Wild Birds in Their Haunts was color-tinted by hand, with startlingly accurate renditions of the birds' bright plumage. One suspects that John James Audubon would have been delighted. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
