Synopsis
When Ruth Shelton (Adelaide Holland) becomes pregnant, the man who wronged her, Tom Leighton (Norman Acker), casts her off. Newspaper reporter Jack Bradley (Morgan Jones) offers to marry her in order to give her baby a name, so they wed. Years pass, and Bradley becomes a very powerful editor who runs for state office against political party boss "Big Jim" Garvan (T. Henderon Murray). The contest is close, and in an attempt to create a scandal and swing the odds in his favor, Garvan digs up Leighton. But when Ruth's boy, Howard (Jack McLean) -- now grown and engaged to Garvan's daughter May (Mae McAvoy) -- discoveres the true origins of his parentage, he kills his real father to save Bradley.
