This documentary looks at the world of mazes and labyrinths. In mythology, when Theseus set out to slay the Minotaur, Ariadne gave Theseus a magic ball of thread that guided him through the labyrinth to the Minotaur's lair. After slaying the Minotaur, Theseus used the golden thread he had laid out to trace his way back to safety. That image of going into the depths of the unknown and a safe return has become a powerful psychological and religious symbol. The labyrinth figures largely in the works of thinkers like Carl Jung and Anais Nin. The medieval maze in Chartres Cathedral sparked a renaissance in the use of the symbol as representing the Christian true path to salvation. Interest in labyrinths is at a high point in modern times in Christian, Pagan, and New Age practices. This film investigates the twisting, turning creations, from the hedge mazes of English royalty to the stone wall labyrinths of ancient civilizations. Commentary in this informative production is provided by Jeff Seward, editor and founder of Caerdroia - the Journal of Mazes and Labyrinths. ~ Rose of Sharon Winter, All Movie Guide
