Synopsis
This PBS documentary journey commemorates the 100th anniversary of the opening of the White Pass & Yukon Route Railway at Carcross, Yukon, an International Civil Engineering Landmark, and one of the steepest train ascents in the world. Built to accommodate "gold rush" prospectors heading for the Yukon's gold fields at the beginning of the 20th century, the train still operates today, although only along 40 miles of the original 110. Alaska's Gold Rush Train takes viewers on the train for an odyssey through Alaska's spectacular terrain. The program also features footage of gold rush sites, with local narrators providing the region's lore. Originally the program was telecast as a one-hour special on October 25, 2000. ~ Steve Blackburn, All Movie Guide
