A look at the marriage customs of the Masai is provided in Chronicle of a Savanna Marriage. A young girl of 14, Nayiani, prepares for her wedding day by submitting to the rite of circumcision, a painful procedure required of all girls in her culture. The program follows her progress after marriage, when she tries to adjust to her new life and becomes terribly homesick. The wealth of her husband, measured in the amount of cattle owned, increases, and he takes more wives, who will all share in the work. Filmmaker Stig Holmqvist traces the life of Nayiani for 15 years. ~ Alice Day, All Movie Guide
