In this comedy-drama with music, Babloo (Shahrukh Khan) is a good-hearted but absent-minded man who has just gotten a job as a chef in a luxury hotel where the woman he loves, Sonia (Juhi Chawala), is the banquet manager. As it happens, Babloo looks exactly like Manu (also played by Khan), a unrepentant criminal who has just escaped from prison. Manu is romantically involved with Lily (Sonali Bendre), a dancer who has ties to the criminal underworld. While the police are looking for Manu, they happen upon Babloo and, mistaking him for the fugitive, immediately arrest him. Babloo is eventually released, but when Manu finds out about the mix-up, he captures Babloo and holds him prisoner, while he continues his life of crime using Babloo's identity instead of his own. Babloo must escape to clear his good name and convince the authorities that the Babloo on a crime spree is someone else. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
