This is the second home video release featuring installments from this popular
anime series from Japan, collecting episodes four, five, and six from the first season. In "Eternal Worm," Genki (voice of Andrew Francis), the 11-year-old video game expert, is still trapped in the world of the game Monster Rancher. One day, Genki is traveling with his friend Holly (voice of Maggie Blue O'Hara) and the stone monster Golem (voice of Richard Newman) when they run afoul of the evil Seed Sisters. While Genki and company are able to get away just in time, this only sends them down the path to Allan, a mean boy who doesn't realize that monsters can be your friends and helpers if they are treated with kindness and respect. "Tiger of the Wind" finds Genki and Company crossing a barren and dangerous desert, where they find Tiger (voice of Brian Drummond), a brave but inscrutable creature who could be either a friend or a foe. "Hare's Trick" closes out this collection as Genki and his pals are forced to enter a tournament of battle to raise funds for travel. They find themselves matched against the devious creature Hare (voice of Sam Vincent), who wins the competition and then steals what little money Genki has left. Fate shortly turns the tables on Hare, and Genki must decide if he should show compassion or get revenge on the cunning monster. Another 20 episodes of
Monster Rancher were to follow in the show's first season. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
