Synopsis
The groundbreaking work of Phillip Glass and Robert Wilson forever changed contemporary opera. Their 1976 collaboration "Einstein on the Beach" was restaged in 1984 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and this documentary follows that production. Behind-the-scenes footage of rehearsals and performances look at the creative process and are intercut with interviews with the creators. Einstein on the Beach: The Changing Image of Opera explains how this opera attempts to present a poetic vision of a man, rather than a historical illustration of the inventor. The mysteries of the cosmos and of the human mind are the subject of this documentary. ~ Cara Saposnik, All Movie Guide
