The coral reefs of the world have been in decline for a number of years. The area off the Florida Keys, home to the largest coral reef in the continental United States, is no exception. Observers note that, like a canary in a coal mine, the reef is a warning that the oceans of the world are suffering a serious downturn.
Canary of the Ocean looks at the human reasons behind the poor health of the reefs, and gives an account of how residents are gathering support for the protection of this valuable ecosystem. The program won a CINE Golden Eagle Award, and is recommended for ages eight through adult. ~ Alice Day, All Movie Guide
