"The Whole Ten Yards--another cheap sequel I bought at the FAMILY DOLLAR (just like Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and--you guessed it--THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS)--was a relation of a rather ingenious situation.Matthew Perry's character is just 'along for the ride' of Bruce Willis's hitman-character's fortune-plan.While I'm sure The Whole Nine Yards was also a good movie, you don't need to have seen it to catch enough of its 'gist' leading into the plot of The Whole Ten ... i.e. The Whole Ten might hold some sort of "completion" of The Whole Nine, but you don't need to know that there was ever Nine to enjoy the Ten (unlike REVOLUTIONS, for which you need to have seen RELOADED to "get"). "It's hard for me to look at movies seperately when they are sequels. I always want to see the all picture and tend to judge the whoe franchise by it's overall quality. Normally, I won't see a film, if I'm not prepared to see it's sequel too, but for this pair of dark comedies, my advice is check out The Whole Nine Yards, but skip the tenth yard. The first movie is dark, witty, very funny. A lot of sophisticated humor mixed in with it's moments of slapstick. The second movie is just as dark and at times witty, but the plot makes no sense and it fails at ever being funny. This is a case of sequels gone bad. The first one made so much money, that they had to jump in and try to make too much out of it. In the end the sequel has the same cast of characters, but it feels much more forced and the humor too dependent upon what happened in the first movie. " [More]

"Swingers's detail pageI thought I wouldn't like participating in this group at first because it get's frustrating complaining about movies, but I can't seem to hold myself back. Puhnner, you asked me to list some of my overrated movies, referring to my definition of overrated by ratio. Well I'm not sure if this is going by the same criteria, but I've come up with a list from another source. I also rate movies at the website movielens. It will give you recommendations based on your ratings and whatnot. It also gives some interesting statistics. For one, it tells me which movies I have rated the lowest compared to the average rating on their site. So I have looked at that list and picked several of them. The thing about this method is that I am not using what my impression of the ammount of acclaim a movie has received for the ratio but rather what the ammount of acclaim a website thinks a movie has based on the votes from it's users. Uneven but amusing, this farce follows the mob comedy trend of the late '90s mostly successfully, and stands as the first modest box-office hit for manic television star Matthew Perry after several attempts to transform the actor into a leading man. Director Jonathan Lynn brings his trademark pros and cons to the material, including his facility with a diverse cast and some welcome comic energy, but also a distinct lack of imagination that would elevate his work above a boringly glossy, made-for-television level of visual quality. Always welcome and winning in more of a supporting role is Bruce Willis. Some of the actor's finest performances have been as a co-star -- as in Nobody's Fool (1994) and Pulp Fiction (1994) -- and The Whole Nine Yards is no exception, with Willis shrewdly portraying a hit man as bemused and laid back instead of menacing. Not an entirely hilarious film, The Whole Nine Yards is rescued by some rewardingly offbeat performances, a lighthearted tone, and a zippy pace. ~ Karl Williams, All Movie Guide
