Directed by Michael Apted.
James Bond, the world's greatest secret agent, is sent once more into the breach in the name of Queen, Country, and a dry martini. In the 19th Bond adventure, 007 (Pierce Brosnan) must resolve a potentially deadly power struggle between two unstable nations, with control of the world's oil supply as the ultimate prize. Bond is assigned as bodyguard to Elektra King (Sophie Marceau), the daughter of a petroleum magnate who was brutally murdered, and is trying to foil the fiendish plot of Renard (Robert Carlyle), a villain who was shot in the head with an unusual result: he cannot feel physical pain, an apparent failing that proves to be a considerable asset. Denise Richards appears as Dr. Christmas Jones, an expert on nuclear weapons, alongside Desmond Llewelyn as Q, Judi Dench as M, Samantha Bond as Miss Moneypenny, and John Cleese as R. Alternative rock band Garbage performs the theme song. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

"Oh , Kermit T. Frog. What a sage you are. For you have foretold the dilemma facing one similarly hued hero and his battle for acceptance among the masses. Let's take a look at his Magi-like prognostication on a more thorough level to unveil his astute observations concerning the current box office bind concerning one “Incredible Hulk”: It's not that easy bein' green,Having to spend each day the color of leaves. For five years, the not-so-jolly, lime-colored character has been the target of many a nasty fan-boy rant, ever since director Ang Lee decided to saddle the comic book adaptation with Freudian subtext and layer his tale with psychoanalyses better left on the couch than in a mega-watt movie. The film was levelled by hoards of angry basement-dwellers who puffed up like the titular beast and smashed the best way they knew how – through anonymous postings on message boards. In an attempt to rectify the situation, Hulk's owners, Marvel Comics, have opted ... " [More]

"This is just a downright boring movie. Featuring the absolute worst Bond-girl in Bond-history (Denise Richards as Dr. Christmas Jones), a lousy villain (Robert Carlyle as Renard) and a silly plot I doubt anyone can reconstruct, the film has little to offer other than a few relatively entertaining action scenes. Ranks with Moonraker and Die Another Day as the worst in the series. " [More]

"The world is not enough is a pretty good movie. Not really in my top five favorite bond films, but not the worst. The main though I had was about the music video for it by Garbage. I actually enjoyed the concept behind the music video more than the movie. Then again, I'm kind of a fan of Shirley Manson. Just wondering if anyone else felt this way. " [More]

"I haven't seen any signs of recent life on this board, but will throw out a suggestion... RANK THE BOND FILMS. Against each other, of course, not necessarily individual ratings. A friend of mine challenged me to re-watch them chronologically and as quickly as possible. We each made our own notes along the way and ranked them. The ranking below was created prior to DIE ANOTHER DAY, so I need to consider where it fits in. I will tell you exactly where CASINO ROYALE fits in (see below). This is all very subjective, but I'd be interested to see other's thoughts. For example, do you loathe YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE because of its finale or do you forgive that portion and rank it higher? Enough babbling, on with my ranking. From Russia with LoveThunderballGoldeneyeCasino RoyaleOn Her Majesty’s Secret ServiceThe Living DaylightsDr NoTomorrow Never DiesThe Spy Who Loved MeLicense To KillGoldfingerFor Your Eyes OnlyLive and Let DieThe World Is Not EnoughOctopussyThe Man w ... "I have to admit, I have been away from the Bond franchise for some time. The last one I saw was 'Goldeneye', and while I thought it was a cut above the previous few entries, I was getting a little tired of the concept, thinking "how long can they keep milking this?" -- Well we had heard that this new Bond Daniel Craig was worth a look, so we ventured out to our local multiplex to check him out around December. Additionally, the 'Encore' channel started running all the old Bonds around the New Year (and if you got the 'on demand' option with your cable service, you could watch all of them at your leisure in widescreen no less!), so around here, we've been thoroughly drenched in Bond for the past few months. This weekend, we were snowed in and watched one of the more recent Pierce Brosnan entries, so with all this is mind, I thought I'd do an overview of the 007 pantheon (at least the ones I've seen, who knows how many times by now).I have to start ...
