This is a must see for color. Especially take the time to watch the directors commentary. Each scene uses lighting and color techniques to portray the mood of the scene. For instance grey and royal blue are used in the store scenes to show the depressing life in which the character lives. Each scene with the family uses warm tones for coloring and wood to symbolize warmth. The film was directed by Mark Romanek who has directed several music videos for Madonna, NIN, Red Hot Chili Peppers and many other artists.

The director uses intense colors for the daylight scenes which I first thought would be annoying, but after a few minutes into the movie I was more drawn to the movie. The intense orange and red tones actually gives the feeling of heat and desolation.
