Directed by Rachel Talalay.
The producers insisted that this sixth entry in the Nightmare on Elm Street series marked the last; no points for guessing that additional sequels followed. This time, homicidal wraith Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) decides to extend his reign of terror past Elm Street. His agent-on-earth is his own long-lost daughter Maggie (Lisa Zane, sister of Phantom star Billy Zane). Securing a job as a dream therapist for troubled teens, Maggie is able to "open up" the minds of her patients so that Freddy can exercise his usual bloody prerogative. In a garish, 3-D climax, Freddy himself becomes the victim of the vengeful Maggie. Since what happens in this picture is laid out in the title, we can't possibly be accused of giving the ending away. Watch for cameos from Roseanne and her then-husband Tom Arnold, Alice Cooper, Elinor Donahue, and Johnny Depp, one of the stars of the very first Nightmare. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

"
OH! And I wish to apologize... my 'link a movie thingy' still isn't working...
That had to be a tripp, sitting in county jail watching 3-D! I can't imagine it. I remember I was out in Eugene Oregon and I saw House of 1000 Corpses (2002) and I was wasted, pretty much 3-D vision. I never realized how the actual visuals were or how the movie plays out until I ended up here and bought it, sat and watched it sober. It didnt make hell alot of sense, but I still enjoyed the flick. I remember Jaws 3 (1983), but I was real young! But back in those days movies stayed in the theaters alot longer! I can remember movies not even showing up in the rentals for like a year or so later. Then VCRS back in those days you had to put a 60 or 70 dollar deposit down to rent one. Also I remember Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991) in 3-D, which I liked alot. Jumping off the subject for the moment, the French right now for horror, is where it is at. Hollywood ... " [More]

"My word, it’s no wonder Wes Craven felt the need to redefine Freddy in “A New Nightmare.” By this point, he’s like a cartoon villain. The killings (while I’ve never been that guy who watches these things for them) were like watching a sicker version of Bugs Bunny. There was even cartoon sound effects! Freddy looks a little better than he did in the last movie, but not by much. He now looks more like he’s got a weird skin condition than horrible, disfiguring burns. And the plot didn’t make a whole lot of sense, either. We start with an on-screen message that says the movie takes place ten years from now (well, ten years from 1991, when it was made. Although nothing looks different), and apparently, Freddy has killed every kid in Springwood (the town Elm Street is located in). The killings are all rules “mysterious deaths and suicides” and apparently all the adults are suffering from “mass hysteria.” Alright, so we ha ... " [More]
