Le Huitième Jour (1959)

Synopsis
A somewhat literary and aloof tale about a woman and her problems, Le Huitième Jour focuses on the nature and causes of loneliness. Françoise (Emmanuelle Riva) spends her evenings by herself, and her only form of diversion is the charge she gets out of watching the horse races at the track on a Sunday afternoon. Even though one fellow is actively pursuing a relationship with her, he is not the world's best choice for a boyfriend, and the sensitive Françoise consistently puts him off.
