Directed by Steven Spielberg.
Just when you'd think that scientists would realize dinosaurs and humans don't mix, along comes The Lost World: Jurassic Park to prove you wrong. In this sequel, John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) summons chaos theorist and onetime colleague Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) to his home with some startling information -- while nearly everything at his Jurassic Park had been destroyed, engineers were also operating a second site, where other dinosaurs, resurrected through DNA cloning technology, had been kept in hiding. Hammond has learned the dinosaurs on the second island are alive and well and even breeding; Hammond wants Malcolm to observe and document the reptiles before Hammond's financiers can get to them. Malcolm declares he had enough of the dinosaurs the first time out, but decides to make the trip when he finds out that his girlfriend, paleontologist Sarah Harding (Julianne Moore), is already there. However, Ian and Sarah aren't the only visitors expected on the island; a camera crew led by ecological activist Nick Van Owen (Vince Vaughn) is on the way, as is Roland Tembo (Pete Postlethwaite), a world-class wild game hunter who is supposed to round up the dinosaurs and who hopes to bag a prehistoric trophy for himself in the process. This sequel to Jurassic Park boasted even more impressive special effects than the first film, though the acting and screenplay aren't always at the same level. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

"[quote user="Risselada"] [quote user="SkyPilot"] A trio of movies that are worse than having no movies. They only succeed in reminding you of the movies you're missing: 1. The Phantom Menace 2. The Lost World: Jurassic Park 3. The Ladykillers [/quote] Don't you put a Coen brothers movie on that list!!! [/quote] I second that. You know Rizzo, just because you edited out the cuss word in your post doesn't mean we didn't get the email showing your true raw unaldulterated emotions. " [More]

"Oh , Kermit T. Frog. What a sage you are. For you have foretold the dilemma facing one similarly hued hero and his battle for acceptance among the masses. Let's take a look at his Magi-like prognostication on a more thorough level to unveil his astute observations concerning the current box office bind concerning one “Incredible Hulk”: It's not that easy bein' green,Having to spend each day the color of leaves. For five years, the not-so-jolly, lime-colored character has been the target of many a nasty fan-boy rant, ever since director Ang Lee decided to saddle the comic book adaptation with Freudian subtext and layer his tale with psychoanalyses better left on the couch than in a mega-watt movie. The film was levelled by hoards of angry basement-dwellers who puffed up like the titular beast and smashed the best way they knew how – through anonymous postings on message boards. In an attempt to rectify the situation, Hulk's owners, Marvel Comics, have opted ... " [More]

"In perhaps the all-time most significant fulfilling of cinematic expectations, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas successfully bring Indiana Jones back after a near 20-year hiatus, while Harrison Ford dispels any doubts than an older Indy is an ineffective Indy. "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" is the perfect companion to the late-'50s serials that helped inspire the adventurous archaeologist. Some of the plot points may seem hokey at first, but if you can accept that the Ark of the Covenant and the Holy Grail have been past series focal points, you'll agree that there can be no better era-appropriate focus. Ford is thoroughly convincing in reprising his most well-known character. There is no moment when you believe that he is incapable of fulfilling the attitude and, especially, the action requirements for the film and series. Each supporting character also receives appropriate development, additional signs that the saga is receiving proper care. Cate Blan ... " [More]

"Yet more chaos in the wake of The Fall of the Globes: yesterday, we noted that if nothing else, a minimized Golden Globes would spare us the inevitable tribute montage to Steven Spielberg, who is due to receive a Cecil B. DeMille award at the ceremony. Now it appears that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has decided (surely not without some help from the Spielberg camp) that, rather than accept the award at this year’s glorified press conference, “it would be better” (?!?) for the HFPA to just give him the same award next year, when presumably, there will be a four hour telecast to further pad with tributes to Spielberg’s special way with imperiled children, animatronic dinosaurs, animatronic children and imperiled dinosaurs. I got the Variety email alert for this story, and I admit it??????I literally, audibly cried, “Bah!” Other than that, I’ve got nothing. How about you? Originally posted on:SpoutBlog » karina " [More]

"Jeff Goldblum is the man. When is he ever not playing Jeff Goldblum? Without him in the film, I think this would have sunk (maybe even more than it did?), and even though some of the magic wore off when this came out, there's still TWO T-Rex's in THIS one! Yes! " [More]

"5/10 I had watched this years ago but couldn't remember much, but going in I remembered it landed nowhere near the first Jurassic Park in terms of quality. Turns out I remembered right. The first JP is one of my favorite films because the atmosphere Spielberg created just felt so real to me. Dinosaurs roaming the earth in the 20th century may seem like fantasy but Spielberg was able to create a world where you couldn't help but believe they really ruled the island, and that man was trespassing. In this film however, the spectical is gone, perhaps because it shows a lot of what we've already seen. I liked the references to some key moments in the original JP, but beyond that we just saw more of the same dinosaurs doing the same damage. The suspense was really gone from this movie, and it turned into another monster movie. I liked the original because it didn't feel like that. Most of the original actors were absent from this film, and that's usually a bad ... " [More]
